EXAM STRUCTURE:

PART 1: POETRY ANNOTATION


You will be given an unseen poem (not from your set text).
You will be required to annotate the poem. The more detailed your annotations the better.
You should spend no more than 20 MINUTES on the annotations.

PART 2: ESSAY
You will be given an essay question based on the poem. Write a five paragraph essay in response to the
question. Follow the essay writing process i.e. understanding the question, brainstorming, writing an
essay plan.

You should spend no more than 60 MINUTES on the essay.

Allow 10 MINUTES to revise/edit your work.

STANDARDS & SUCCESS CRITERIA:


You will be assessed overall on how well you:
 demonstrate your understanding of the text
 explain, analyse, evaluate and organise your ideas and understandings
 effectively cite evidence and examples from the text extract to support your ideas and
opinions
 use the essay writing process to plan, structure and write your essay
