Start Introduction
TIA
We’ve all heard of our friends or if it’s us or family
relatives talking about losing weight.
The supremacy of fashion and magazines almost taking control
of our confidence and lowering our self-esteems.
“Wow I actually really need to lose weight”.
“Maybe I’ll actually be able to look like her in that top” or
“I could actually get a pair of skinny jeans like those if I
looked that skinny”.
The impact of fashion in general on girls.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have eaten those chips or that meal” The
guilt and regret of hunger and feeling like avoiding meals and
food would’ve satisfied us more.
Skinny isn’t Skinny enough apparently and many girls are
unhealthy and become anorexic to the point where it’s
dangerous and they promote their type of skinny to other girls
resulting in eating disorders.
Is this something we can help with?
When a skinny girl is on the cover of a magazine, teenagers
would do anything to look like them, it almost creates a
lifelong goal for them, resulting in many lifestyle choices
and changes amongst teenagers and unhealthy approaches and
girls think skipping a meal is an achievement.
People are fighting against the concept that larger and
curvier bodies are less attractive.
Research shows that almost every woman has had issues
involving body image or weight problems.
Do you think it is an exaggeration?
How do you feel that one of your friends or family members
could be suffering from anorexia or feeling like they aren’t
skinny enough?
Do you think girls are pressured into wearing a certain
clothing item depending on their weight?
The fashion industry is influencing girls to become anorexic
or lose weight because apparently skinny isn’t skinny enough.
Have you seen somewhere or thought that this is the reason why
girls are losing weight?
Do you think showing your body more or skin lowers others
self-esteem?
The fact not eating is commented by girls wanting to be skinny
is showing the impact how a magazine or photo has this much
impact for a girl to want to starve herself.
Not only does this effect girls but boys and men as well.
Boys believe that opening up about it feels more feminine and
feel as if they need abs or be skinny but not “lanky” or “dad
bod”.
Looking back now, do you possibly feel different from seeing
stuff and obviously it’s taken lots of impact on girls
everyday but have you seen things differently now?
We see more diverse people, all bodies are loved.
When we’re shopping online, we see there’s a different
category for plus size and it feels a bit awful and having to
shop into a different category to buy stuff.
If you could give a piece of advice to someone experiencing or
going through, what would you say?
If we were to all wear baggy clothes, no one would see us
different or there wouldn’t be problems as none of us can see
underneath and we’d all look the same, there’s nothing to
judge.
Thank you for coming in to speak about this educating matter.
Ending
Thank you to Aimee and Laura for coming in and speaking about
a matter that seems to be important especially now but also
every day. The struggle teenagers go through with health and
weight is important and should be an eye opener for mental
health and many people should be aware and educated.
Loving yourself is the only way anyone else can.
