1 PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to provide procedures for the installation of traffic/road
signs at SAPMT Temporary Construction Facilities (TCF) and at Access Roads as
described in the scope of work for South Ghawar UR Early Works and TCF project.

2 SCOPE

This procedure covers from material specification, excavations & backfilling, formworks,
rebar works, concreting and coating, sign installation, and other activities to complete the
installation road signages at South Ghawar UR Early Works and TFC.

4 RESPONSIBILITIES
Construction Manager Shall be responsible for managing the works and Equipment.
The site Engineer Shall be responsible for supervision during work execution.
QA/QCM Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager
IFC
QC Inspector Shall be responsible for inspecting all installations related to
quality.
Foreman Shall be responsible to lead his crew for the proper execution of
the work.
The surveyor shall be responsible for establishing all the horizontal and vertical
reference points
QA/QCM Shall ensure that the work is carried out as the approved
procedure and installation references.
Safety Officers Monitor the activity and ensure that proper safety procedures are
being implemented and hold any activity which could be found in
unsafe situation.

5 PROCEDURE
5.1 General
5.1.1 The substrate and the conditions under which the traffic and directional signs
are to be installed and correct any unsatisfactory conditions. Do not proceed
with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected or comply
with the requirements.
5.1.2 Provide and install the required traffic signages and pavement marking on
roads, driveways, and parking areas, as shown on the (Approved Shop
Drawing) or IFC Drawing
5.1.3 Road Signages shall be in-line with the proposed traffic directions.
5.1.4 Construction of the concrete components of the signage such as concrete
support shall comply with the requirements of SAES-Q-001.
5.1.5 All signs shall conform to the standards for road safety features issued by the
Ministry of Communications (MOC), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
5.1.6 All roadway sign materials, colors, letterings symbol, and designs shall be
following the ministry of communications Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

5.2 Installation
5.2.1 Location
5.2.1.1 To be located horizontally and vertically within an accuracy of + 20
mm to the lines and grades as indicated, and set square with and
parallel to the lines as shown on the drawings.
5.2.2 Position
5.2.2.1 The face of signs shall be turned 3° perpendicular towards the
centerline of the road and traffic directions.
5.2.3 Footings
5.2.3.1 Excavation and backfill for bases, including disposal of surplus
material, shall be provided per SAES-A-114 (Excavation and
Backfill). Concrete work shall be as per SAES-Q-001 (Criteria for
Design and Construction of Concrete Structures). The exposed top
surface shall be slightly sloped and finished off smooth with outer
edges rounded.
5.2.3.2 Cast-In-Situ posts bases to be surrounded below ground by a 0.15
mm thick polyethylene vapor barrier.
5.2.3.3 Precast post bases to be coated with 2 layers of bituminous paint
per APCS-10 before final placement.
5.2.4 Mounting Sign Panels
5.2.4.1 Sign panels shall be securely attached to the posts such that
there is no wobble, sway, or looseness within the assembly.
Panels shall be accurately sloped as shown or plumb elsewhere,
and all panels set with top and bottom edges level.
5.2.4.2 Mount the sign panels with slider brackets, following approved
shop drawings. The type of bracket shall be such that the sign
can be oriented and adjusted after mounting. As soon as the final
position has been reached, the sign shall be securely fixed to
avoid any further movement.
5.2.4.3 Tops and penetrations through pipe posts shall be covered with
suitable resilient caps or washers and installed such as to
preclude the entry of water to the inside of the pipe.
5.2.4.4 Individual sign panels designated on the drawings to be mounted
on support structures other than specified herein, shall be
provided, set, and secured as shown or required and fixed in
conformance with the requirements specified herein.

6 QUALITY REQUIREMENTS:
6.1 High-intensity reflective sheeting shall be used for sign plates.
6.2 All sign plates shall be constructed of sheet aluminum to ASTM B209, Alloy 6061-t6,
and be not less than 3.0 mm thick unless otherwise shown

7 QUALITY CONTROL:
7.1 Contractor to develop its own SATIP/SAIC

8 HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT


8.1 Health, Safety, and Environment issues shall be guided by AMT safety procedures &
ARAMCO Standard.
8.2 Safety talk shall be conducted to remind the workers about the risk involved before
commencing the activity.
8.3 Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for this particular activity shall be submitted separately.
8.4 HSE Officers to:
 Facilitate site health and safety meetings.
 Identification of the hazards and risks relevant to the construction
project through regular coordinated site inspections.
 Establish and maintain health and safety communication structures and
systems, distribution of health and safety specific documents to all
construction team.
