Saudi Aramco Test Report Temperature Tie-In Welding Report

This document summarizes a temperature tie-in welding report for a master gas system expansion project in Saudi Arabia. It describes the test procedure and acceptance criteria for ensuring welds are made at the appropriate pipe temperature. Mean pipe temperature was recorded for three days prior to determine the highest practical tie-in temperature. The actual tie-in temperature was calculated as the average of the top and bottom pipe readings and was within the specified project range. Contractors signed off to confirm welding could proceed once the temperature criteria were met.

TEST PROCEDURE & CHECKLIST: A temperature tie-in weld is a weld that connects one of the following:
• Two pipeline strings together
A • An existing pipeline to a pipeline under construction
• A pipeline to an anchor
• Pipeline sections to an intermediate mainline valve that is being inserted

Mean pipe temperature is recorded as the actual tie-in temperature for SAES-L-450,
A1
pipeline. Para. 15.7
Contact temperature measuring device is shielded from direct sun to SAES-L-450,
A2
prevent an inaccurate reading (as applicable). Para. 15.3
Construction Engineer has determined the highest practical tie-in SAES-L-450,
A3 temperature for each tie-in weld. Hold Point: Readings of mean pipe Para. 15.2 &
temperature were taken for three days prior to tie-in. Para. 15.7
Actual tie-in temperature reading is the average of two readings, one at SAES-L-450,
A4
the top and one at the bottom of the pipe. Para. 15.3
SAES-L-450,
A5 Actual tie-in temperature is within range stated in the Project Specs.
Para. 15.2
The final weld shall be made at or above the mean pipe temperature for SAES-L-450,
A6
the three days prior to the final tie-in. Para. 15.7
