Adobe Software Scan (VBScript) Instructions
1. Change the 'Adobe_Scan.txt' file name to 'Adobe_Scan.Vbs' (make sure the actual extension changes)
If appears, select ‘Yes’ at the prompt shown (Figure 1 below)
Make sure your computer settings are set to show file extensions (see link for instructions)

2. Leave all other files 'as is' in the same folder as the Adobe_Scan.Vbs file
‘[Link]’ and ‘[Link]’ are required to run the script
3. The '[Link]' is already populated with the names of the machines to scan
If the file only contains “testMachine1” and “testMachine2”, then a list of machines was not provided ; in
testing the script, you can replace these names with real machine names
You can choose to scan all of active directory (see below) or input a specific list of machines here
4. Double click the 'Adobe_Scan.Vbs' to start the script
User with Administrative rights for machines being scanned must initiate (usually Domain admin)
Each machine takes from three to eight minutes to scan, with little to no effect on remote users
Start script in the morning and start of the week to maximize scanning during business hours
5. At the pop-up box (Figures 2, 3, and 4 below):
Use the default option ('M') to scan all machines in the machines text file (Figure 2 below)
Use option ('L') to scan just the local machine (Figure 3 below)
Use option (‘AD’) to scan all machines in the Active Directory domain currently authenticated to (must login
to and run separately for each domain)
6. After inputting the option in step #5, click 'OK' to start the script
If you chose option ‘AD’, the script will begin to collect the list of machines to scan (Figure 5 below)
If you chose option ‘AD’ or ‘M’, the script will also ask for confirmation to start scan (Figure 6 below)
7. If no error Message Boxes appear and your command prompt looks similar to Figure 7 below, then the scan has
been started successfully
Additional windows for each remote machine being scanned will open (Figure 8 below)
8. By default the script will do the following:
Connect to remote machines via WMI from the centralized server where the script was initiated (remote
machine must be powered on and connected to the network to be scanned)
Scan each remote machine for the following information:
1) Scan “Add Remove Programs” to return all Adobe products installed
2) Search Adobe default file path locations for Adobe executables
3) Scan main filesystem (ie. c: drive) for primary Adobe executable files
4) Extract ISO Tags for installed Adobe software (CS4 and newer)
Script will run for 72 hours ; or until all machines have been successfully scanned
Script will scan 25 machines at once
Script will automatically skip machines that are un-reachable and will re-attempt to reach the machine at
least 5 times (or until the minimum script duration has been reached – ie. 72 hours)
Script will time out on a particular machine if the scan has taken longer than 10 minutes
9. See the script parameters at the beginning of the display in the command window (Figure 7 below)
10. The command window will update as remote machines are scanned (Figure 9 below)
11. After the script has finished, the command window will look like Figure 10 below
Zip up the newly created ‘Adobe_Results’ folder and send to Adobe
Please take a screen shot of the main script window (Figure 10 below) when script has finished
