Naphtha Upgradation in Small Refinery

This document discusses upgrading a small topping refinery to improve naphtha into gasoline using a fixed bed continuous reformer while separating benzene, toluene, and xylene to meet Western standards without reducing fuel revenue. The objective is to design and estimate the upgrade using Aspen simulation to convert naphtha into gasoline and extract benzene, toluene, and xylene to produce cleaner fuel. Assumptions include using a standard naphtha composition for Iraqi Kurdistan crude and estimating equipment costs with CAPCOST.

Upgradation of small topping refinery

Business case:
 Estimation for fixed bed continuous reformer for upgradation of heavier naphtha into
gasoline and separating benzene, toluene and xylene for striving toward Western refining
standards to compete.

 The upgradation should be done without losses in fuels revenues.

Project Objective:
 To design and estimate for upgradation in small topping refinery for converting naphtha
into gasoline and separation of benzene, toluene and xylene for producing clean fuel.

 Design to be simulated using Aspen according to Final Report Requirement.

Assumptions:
 As the Crude oil in Iraqi Kurdistan has complex composition, therefore, for analysis and
cost estimation the board naphtha composition can be used.

 CAPCOST used to estimate the cost of equipment’s needed for upgradation.
