4A’s DETAILED LESSON PLAN
IN SCIENCE 4
Grade: Grade 4 Time: 1:00-1:45
Section: Gold
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:
Identify the transfer of heat
Perform an activity that shows conduction, convection, radiation
II. SUBJECT MATTER
a. Topic – Heat Transfer; Conduction, Convection, Radiation
b. Reference – Science in Our World 4, Norma M. Abracia,[Link]. al, Page 154-155
c. Materials – Book, activity card,
d. Science Process – Observing, performing
e. Value Focus – Importance of Heat Transfer in our daily life.
III. METHODOLOGY
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
Everybody please stand up and
let’s have a prayer (pupils stand up)
Good morning class. - Good morning ma’am
Who are absent for today? - None ma’am
If none, well that’s good to know
that you had perfect attendance.
1. REVIEW
Before we start our class for today
please settle down and be attentive, is that
clear class? - Yes ma’am
So who can remember about our topic
last meeting? - Our topic was all about
parts of the flowers
Yes very good! And what have you
learned about parts of the flowers?
give at least one example part of a flower. - roots
- Stem
- Leaves
- Flowers
- roots
Very well said , now what do you think
is the importance of flowers in our daily life - gives beauty to our
surroundings and it also
has many uses.
2. MOTIVATION
So class I have here a picture,
so what you are going to do is to guess
what the pictures tells about.
Picture analysis
A hand holding a the handle
of a heated frying pan.
Ironing clothes
Sunbathing
The man feels hot under the sun
An Ice Cream melting
Heated hot air balloon
Boilng water in a pan
The sun lights or heated the earth
Hand near a flame
Melting candle
All of your answers are correct,
this pictures that you have seen
are the examples of our lesson
for today but before that lets
have this first.
3. ACTIVITY
Pre – activity
Now class I will be grouping you
into three groups. Each group will have
an index card where the instruction is
written and an envelope where the
the materials are. Is that clear class? - yes ma’am
so count 1-3 and then go to your group
and cooperate, am I understood? - yes ma’am
Group 1:
“ Heat Transfer from the lighter”
Material: Lighter
Procedure:
Turn on the lighter and place your
hand near the flame, then, observe
what you feel. You can also find
other objects to to be heated by a
lighter.
Group 2:
“Melted candle”
Materials: spoon,candle, lighter
Procedure:
Put the butter into the spoon and
heat the spoon by the flame of the
lighter. Observe what happened to
the butter.
Group 3:
“heated Faster”
Material: Twigs, Wire, Lighter
Procedure:
Heat the twig and the wire by the
flame of a lighter. Observe which of
the two heats faster.
Activity Proper
On a piece of bondpaper the group
will write their observations and
explanations based on the given
activity.
Post Activity
Each group will choose their
representative or reporter and share
their observation in class.
4. ANALYSIS
What you had perform is an example of
Conduction, Convection, and Radiation
Which are the transfer of heat.
Heat is a form of energy and it flows from
from one object to another, and it is
important in many ways.
Transfer of Heat
Conduction- when a solid comes into
a hot surface or substance the molecules
nearest to the hot surface are heated.
Through continuous collisions heat is transferred
all throughout the solid.
Conductors are materials which allow heat to
to pass through quickly like Gold, silver, copper,
metal, aluminum.
Insulators are poor conductors of heat
they do not allow heat to pass through them
easily like wood , cloth, and rubber.
Convection- is when the colder liquid from the \
top is push down and in turn becomes heated and
rises. It is the transfer of heat energy by movement
of matter.
Radiation- is the transfer of heat energy from the
form of waves, an energy that turns into thermal
energy when absorbed.
5. ABSTRACTION
So again, what are the three types of Heat
Transfer?
- the three types of
Heat transfer are,
Conduction,
Convection, and
Radiation.
Very well said, so who can formulate and idea
about heat transfer. – it is the transfer
of heat on
another objects
that changes its
temperature.
So why do you think that heat is important? - it is important
because it helps us.
6. APPLICATION
So we have here a chart, to see if you
really understand our lesson.
Direction:
On a piece of paper, copy and connect the dots to its
corresponding answer/meaning.
Conductors • • solid which comes into contact with hot
surface
Insulators • • transfer of heat energy by movement of
matter
conduction • • are materials which allow heat to pass
through quickly
radiation • •they are the poor conductors of heat
convection • •transfer heat energy in the form of waves
Are you done class? - Yes Ma’am
Okay, pass your paper in front of you and
The person who are at the center well get
the papers and pass it on me. – here are the papers
Ma’am
IV. EVALUATION
On a piece of paper, read and answer the following.
Direction: Identify the method of heat transfer in each statement. Write the letter of the correct
Answer on the blank space provided.
a. Conduction b. Convection c. radiation
__C__ 1. An ice cube melts on the table.
__A_ 2. Sunbathing during summer.
__B_ 3. Boiling water in a pan.
__C_4. Hand near a flame feels hot.
__A_ 5. Turning the air conditioner makes the room cooler.
M. l. ________
I. D. ________
V. ASSIGNMENT
Bring one material that make the best conductors of heat and explain why. Put your
explanation on a piece of paper.
