In your own words, briefly explain how electricity is produced and how it is significant to our daily
lives?
Electricity is very important to us mankind. It is already embedded in our lives and one cannot
think of a world without electricity. Electricity has many uses like it is used for lighting our houses, and
working domestic appliances like electric fans, electric stoves, air conditioner and refrigerator .In
factories, electricity helps in the operation of large machines in producing essential items like food,
cloth, and many other things that are product of electricity. All the uses of electricity provides comfort
to us people.
Electricity is the energy caused by the movements of electrons and positrons within conductive
materials. Electricity is produced through generation, transmission, and distribution.
*Generation- Electricity is produced in plants capable of drawing electrical energy from primary
energy sources. These primary energies may be renewable or non renewable resources. Renewable
resources are wind, solar power, tidal power. Non-renewable resources are coal, natural gas, oil.
*Transmission- Once the energy has been processed and turned into electricity, it is sent
through overhead or underground wires from the plants to substations. There, transformers ensure
sufficient electrical voltage.
*Distribution: from the substations, electricity is distributed to the homes in the surrounding
area.
