Three-Phase Unbalanced Load

This document discusses three-phase unbalanced loads connected in delta and wye configurations. It provides equations to calculate phase currents, line currents, and total power for delta-connected loads with unequal impedances between phases. It also describes how to transform a wye-connected load into an equivalent delta circuit to solve for currents and power using delta calculations. Sample problems are given as examples.

Sample Problems:

1. A three-phase 120-volt circuit has phase sequence ABC and delivers power to a
group of delta-connected impedances whose values are 𝑍𝐴𝐵 = 10 + 𝑗0 ohms,
𝑍𝐵𝐶 = 5 + 𝑗8.66 ohms and 𝑍𝐶𝐴 = 8.66 + 𝑗5 ohms. Calculate (a) the three line
currents, and (b) the total power.

2. A three-phase source has a phase sequence of 𝑉𝐴𝐵 , 𝑉𝐵𝐶 , 𝑉𝐶𝐴 and delivers the
following loads: 𝐼𝐴𝐵 = 12∠𝑜 0 , 𝐼𝐵𝐶 = 12∠ − 600 , 𝐼𝐶𝐴 = 16∠600 . Calculate the line
currents 𝐼𝐴 , 𝐼𝐵 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼𝐶 .
