Encoder Fault Troubleshooting Guide

The document provides troubleshooting steps for an encoder fault occurring on a DE/DAM divider. Possible causes of the fault are listed as issues with the encoder, wiring, PLC input, main drive, frequency inverter, main motor, or mechanism between motor and slide. The multi-step process includes checking wiring, voltages, LED status, error codes and mechanical connections to diagnose the root problem.

DE/DAM Encoder fault 126/222

- Service

Fault message 126 (old, TP170) or 222 (new, TP177):

encoder fault, no count pulse.

Possible causes:
A. Encoder fault
B. Encoder zero pulse printboard fault (if used, old encoder)
C. Wiring between encoder and PLC input
D. PLC input defective
E. Main drive, frequency inverter fault
F. Main drive, Profibus fault
G. Main motor
H. Mechanism between main motor and slide
I. Emergency circuit fault, no PLC outputs are activated.

Actions to be taken:
1.
Press the ACK button on the Touch Screen and the reset button on the operator panel
--> the fault will not be displayed on the Touch Screen.
Start the divider.
If the divider runs for 1 second and fault message 126 (TP170) or 222 (TP177)
is displayed 1 second after pressing the start button, then A, B, C or D is the problem
cause
--> go to action 2.
If the divider does not start running and 1 second after pressing the start button the
divider fault message 126 (TP170) or 222 (TP177) is displayed, then E, F, G, H or I is the
problem cause --> go to action 3.

2.
Check the wiring between the encoder and PLC input E126.6.
Check if the encoder teeth belt is mounted properly. It should be possible to move
this teeth belt about 1 cm in the middle of this teeth belt.
Check the fuse of the PLC input module.
If no faults are found, then replace the encoder and the zero pulse printboard (if used).

3.
Press the ACK button on the Touch Screen and the reset button on the operator panel
--> the fault will not be displayed on the Touch Screen.
Measure the voltage between terminals S3 and S4.
If 24 VDC is measured then go to action 4.
If no 24 VDC is measured --> “I” is the problem cause --> check all wiring, safety
switches and emergency stop contacts in the hardware wiring of the emergency stop.

4.
Check the LED’s on the PLC (CPU); only green LED’s should be on.
If red LED’s are on, then the problem cause could be a Profibus
failure or an inverter failure.

Check the LED’s on the Profibus modules:

Lenze frequency inverters :
- green LED on, yellow LED blinking
- If the yellow LED is not blinking --> F is the problem cause -->
go to action 5.
- If the yellow lamps of all inverters are blinking, then go to action 6.

5.
Check the Profibus wiring including connectors between all frequency
inverters and the CPU.
Check the resistance switches on the connectors or Profibus modules:
all switches in OFF position, excepted the 2 units at both ends of the
Profibus
If no fault cause is found, then replace the Profibus module of the
inverter with the yellow LED not blinking

6.
Put the keypad (small inverter display unit) on the frequency inverter
and check for error codes.
In the frequency inverter manual you will find an error code list including
possible causes and actions to be taken.

7.
Check all mechanical connections between the main motor and the slide
mechanism. Check if the brake is released as soon as the motor is started.
