Define the following for your personal understanding, and suggest ways to check
whether your understanding is correct:
A. Community Health
Community Health is the promotion of health as well as preventing disease achieved
through community effort. I am partially correct, however, there is an easy way to remember and
understand it which is by using the mnemonics 3P’s which stands for Prevention of disease,
Prolonging of life, and promotion of health and efficiency through organized community effort.
B. Community Health Nursing
For me, Community Health Nursing deals with service of the public’s health but as I read
the module, it is broader than that since it is utilizes the different nursing process and not just
addressing concerns of ill clients, rather, its target clients include individuals, families,
population groups, and communities, and does not only limit to ill clients but also those who are
well.
C. Primary Health Care
In my understanding of Primary Health Care, it is a fundamental care that addresses
health problems provided by health services. This is somehow right since Primary Health care is
a first level care provided by health services but it can be understood well by saying that it gives
priority to those most in need and addresses health inequalities; maximizes community and
individual self-reliance, participation and control; and involves collaboration and partnership with
other sectors to promote public health.
