exhibited or used, except in the limited way permitted by a written consent given by the lender to the borrower for the intended use. EIL 1641-507. A4-210x297.

B) DESIGN

1. The EB is required to be installed internally on tube inlet tail pipe of single

pass floating head shell and tube heat exchanger and on outer pipe of double
pipe heat exchanger designed as per ASME Sec. VIII Div.-1 and TEMA-
R.Basic and detailed design of EB shall be the responsibility of the
Manufacturer. Purchaser’s approval shall not relieve him of this responsiblity.

2. Designs shall be carried out in accordance with the codes specified in clause -
A.Manufacturer shall produce adequate proof of such methods having been
recognised by an official code. Submission of copies of bellow design
calculations to Purchaser, for review & comments, if any, shall be complied
with .

3. EB shall have a bursting pressure at least 5 times the design pressure and
shall have a fatigue life-of-at least 7000 cycles.

4. The design shall be such that no single corrugation is permitted to deflect

more than 90 percent of it’s design amount.

5. EB shall be designed so that they will not squirm under hydrostatic test. The
factor of safety on squirm pressure shall not be less than 2.25.

6. Drawing shall show all the design data, all principal dimensions including the
end to end length, transition/spool piece length, number, size and thickness of
the bellows, material and thickness of all parts, heat treatment procedures,
location and size of welds etc.

7. All EB including the transition pieces, shall be hydrostatically tested as per

ASME Sec VIII Div 1 after applying correction factor for bellow
material/temp

8. The distance between EB attachments weld & the tangent line of the root of
each end convolution shall be greater than 0.5*SQRT (mean radius of
attachment of bellow * bellow thickness) & less than 63.5mm.
exhibited or used, except in the limited way permitted by a written consent given by the lender to the borrower for the intended use. EIL 1641-507. A4-210x297.

9. All external covers shall be removable and will have the ends closed. There
shall be no paint or galvanising applied either the inside or outside of the
cover or cover attachments.

10. There shall be no weld any closer than 3/8“ (9.525 mm) to EB and transition
piece circumferential seal weld.

C) CONSTRUCTION

1. Each EB shall be complete with transition piece and internal sleeves. EB shall
be hydraulically or mandrel formed for which the Manufacturer shall satisfy
the requisite curves as per EJMA. EB shall be provided with external devices,
restraining bars & covers to keep the complete unit rigid/safe during
handling. The tie bars should be suitable for positioning/assembling the EB
assembly with a provision to loosen the same during operation. EB shall be
protected against any mechanical damage during shipment and erection.
These shall be labelled for removal after installation on the heat exchanger.
An arrow indicating the direction of fluid flow shall be painted.

Each EB shall be fabricated in minimum number of pieces and any welding if

carried out shall be ground from both sides, DP checked and 100%
radiographed. Welding procedures/qualification shall be as per latest edition
of ASME Code Sec. IX.

2. Material shall be in accordance with relevant ASME specifications.

3. EB material shall be free of visual surface imperfections that would interfere

with the performance of the bellows.

4. The length of the assembly shall be within +1/8" (3.175mm) of that shown on
the manufacturer’s drawings.

5. EB shall have longitudinal welds only, which will be made in an automatic
welding machine utilizing the gas-tungsten arc process with or without filler
materials. Repairs to these welds are not permitted. All welds shall be 100%
radiographed and shall be DP checked.

6. After welding, the longitudinal seams shall be ground flushed and shall have
a smoothness equivalent to that of the bellow sheet material.

7. Multi-ply bellows shall have the ends sealed with resistance welds. Caution
exhibited or used, except in the limited way permitted by a written consent given by the lender to the borrower for the intended use. EIL 1641-507. A4-210x297.

shall be taken to prevent entrapment of contaminants or moisture between

plies during forming.

8. The construction in the vicinity of the bellow seal welds shall be such as to
allow visual and DP inspection.

9. All foreign material such as grease, lubricant, paint, ink, adhesive and any
materials containing sulphur, lead or phosphorus shall be removed from
surfaces that are to be welded and/or heat treated.

10. Annealing of EB after forming shall be the responsibility of the manufacturer

and shall be commensurate with his forming procedures.

11. Any defects (dart, scratches) found on EB shall not be removed or replaced
without Purchaser’s approval.

D) INSPECTION AND TESTING

1. The EB shall be inspected by the Purchaser or his representatives. Vendor

shall advise Purchaser 15 days in advance of the testing date.

2. Before forming all welds shall be fully radiographed. All original films of the
radiographs shall be available to the Purchaser/his representative for
examination. A DP examination shall be performed on all EB attachment
welds after the hydrotest.

3. EB shall be subjected to hydrotest as per ASME Sec VIII Div 1 and this
