The Delayed Parousia
In theology the problem of the Delayed Parousia
deals with the dilemma posed to Christians await-
ing Jesus' Second Coming. Many of the earliest
Christians believed he would return before they died. 2,000+ years later we are still wait-
ing. Why the delay? What's he waiting for? Does this mean he does not intend to return?
As the COVID-19 weeks have turned into months we have all grown weary of waiting for the
pandemic's threat to end. We grow weary of all the precautions we must take. Some even
deny their importance. Others must battle feelings of isolation and depression. Still others
grow ever more cynical as our leaders politicize every facet of the situation.
Please join me in praying for each other. Let us pray for the bright minds working to bring sci-
entific relief from the virus. Let us pray for people to remain steadfast in protecting one anoth-
er by observing the hygiene guidelines. Let us pray for those feeling cut off, fearful, angry.
And one more request: reach out to just one more person today. Pray that God might help
you think of a person who really needs a phone call, a card, even a driveway or backyard vis-
it.
As the church waits together for the Second Coming, so let us wait together for the ending of
these challenging days. We can do it, with God's help.
October Worship Schedule
It's Out, In, Out, In, (then In, In, In...).
On 10/4 we will return to the Ute Shelter at
Deming Park for our 10:30am worship ser-
vice. On 10/11, we go back into our sanctu-
ary. On the 18th we go to Ute/Deming one last worship service out-
doors. We WILL worship at the park come rain or come shine, as the
shelter is large enough to accommodate us.

Sunday Morning Childcare is now available each w eek that w e meet
in the church building for children age 3 years and younger. Our attendants
are on duty from 10:15 to the end of the service. They do a health check
when they arrive. Parents need to sign a form on the first day of returning
stating that you understand our health guidelines and that it is best for chil-
dren showing any symptoms of illness (other than allergies) to not attend.
Please use the north entrance (Larry Bird St.) door to leave your child in
room 101 and the back stairway to the sanctuary. Sanitation procedures
are in place for the room and toys.
Christmas Pageant – pandemic style. Watch for more information coming
soon.
At home Sunday School lessons are available on the Church Family at Cen-
tral Presbyterian Church Facebook Group or by email.
World Communion Sunday is October 4, 2020
The Peace & Global Witness Offering draws Presbyterians
together and provides education and exposure to those
who show us how to do peacemaking well. It allows us to
create resources for dealing with conflict and provide nur-
turing reconciliation, and stand in support of our global sis-
ters and brothers, because the peace of Christ belongs to
people everywhere.
This is why we give to the Peace & Global Witness offering.
We give because we know that every level of society is in
need of Christ’s peace – at all times, in all ways. From our
congregation, where we retain 25 percent of this offering ;
to the region, where 25 percent is retained by mid councils
to support peacemaking efforts being pursued, together
with our neighboring congregations; and to the ends of the
earth, where the remaining 50 percent is deployed by the
Presbyterian Mission Agency to join the peacemaking efforts of church partners
all over the globe. We join these monetary gifts with our prayers for peace and
our work for justice.
Peace at all times in all ways. — 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Youth Corner with Tim
It is Fall, and we are excited to continue to meet
outdoors and enjoy seeing the trees change colors.
We are in the middle of the 'Be A Leader' series.
Our youth have been learning about the valiant characteristics of the Heroes of the bi-
ble, and it is great to see them reflect and apply those characteristics in their daily lives. I
am thankful and proud of our youth!
We know you love our youth! Highpoint Youth is preparing to order some merchandise
for the youth and adults, and we encourage you to put your order in at the earliest and
show your love to our youth group. See below for details.
