3.2: Career Paths

1.1.2: Identify the scope of career opportunities and requirements for education, training,

certification, licensure, and experience.

Intro: As I plan my next several years, I have much to consider. My goal is to become an

elementary school teacher. In an effort to plan out the path to my goal as a primary school

teacher, I have organized this plan in the form of a graphic organizer (Evidence 3.2.1. Career

Path). To make this career possible I will have to take these steps; In high school, I prioritize

organization to better prepare me for college. Once I’m in college I would want to pursue an

early childhood education degree. The last element of my plan considers where my dream job

will be.

In High School: In order to help best prepare me for a career in education,I have taken many

classes and participated in numerous extracurricular activities that will help me along the way.

First, I have participated in a service club. In this club we have held a canned food drive, and

clothing drive for people who are in need. Being a part of this club allows me to realize what

other people go through. I am also on the varsity Field Hockey team at Olentangy High School.

That has shown me what a good leader I can be to the younger teammates. I am also involved

with a club team that is run through previous coaches. Olentangy Orange Field Hockey Coaches.

This shows my motivation to a specific organization that I am very passionate about. I had to get
accepted into the class teacher academy at my high school. This class will prepare me with

becoming a teacher. We have to learn about what it takes to become a teacher and the necessary

requirements in order to achieve that goal. I have taken a lot of self assessments that show I am a

perfect candidate for the teaching program. 3.2.2 evidence 16 personalities traits

Resume (eventually)

After completing high school, I am planning on attending a 4 year college. I would like to

visit Ohio State University, Ohio University, and Bowling Green State University. Due to their

excellent teaching programs. At schools there are pros and cons, which will later help me in my

decision. For Ohio State, (3.2.4 Ohio State Education Program) one of the positives would be

that it is close to home and a con is the larger class sizes. For Ohio University, (3.2.5 Ohio

University) a positive is that my older sister went there for college, so I’m familiar with the

campus. A negative for this is that further away from where I live currently. Lastly Bowling

Green, (3.2.6 Bowling Green) a positive for that would be a small campus meaning smaller class

sizes. The negative would be living so far away from home. After visiting these colleges, I will

have more knowledge in each program regarding student teaching, classes, and state licensure

exams. (3.2.3 Four year teaching licensure) (3.2.7 evidence 16 personalities traits)

After my 4 years attending a university, I hope to get my bachelors degree in early

education. My goal as a teacher is to get a job in a suburban district. After obtaining a job I

would like to pursue a Master's degree. I would like to have my own classroom as a kindergarten

teacher. (3.2.3 Four year teaching licensure) (3.2.9 evidence 16 personalities traits)
In conclusion, I believe that I would make a great teacher. I love working with children

and I want to make a difference in the world. I am developing the skills that I need in order to

become a successful teacher. Each day at Olentangy High School, I am developing good

academic work habits, organizational skills, and social understanding. During my time in teacher

academy, college course work, and student teaching, I hope to learn more about the art of

teaching.
