Joseph is the eldest of three siblings of a very poor family. His father just died and his mother is
bedridden because of a stroke. To provide for their financial needs, he had to quit college and
look for a job. After many failed attempts and almost losing hope, he was finally hired as an
apprentice in a printing press.
Because he was smart and hardworking, Joseph was immediately promoted to the more secure
position of operator. This was a big break for him and his family given their urgent financial
need and the high unemployment rate in his country. Quitting his job would mean starving his
loved ones and losing any chance of re-employment.
A year later, the owner of the company, after having learned that other printing presses make
more money by printing pornographic materials, decided to include such obscene publications in
their business. Because of this, Joseph soon found himself printing pornographic pictures,
magazines, calendars, etc.
Raised as a morally upright catholic by his religious parents, Joseph was disturbed and
scandalized by what he was doing. He knew that printing such materials made him sin not only
by looking at them but also—and more seriously—by becoming one of the causes for their
customers to commit sin (this immoral act is known as “scandal”).
Since then, the more Joseph worked for the company the more bothered his conscience became.
This lead him to think about quitting his job and looking for another one.
What should he do?
Step 1:
What should Joseph do? Quitting job and look for another one to avoid the conscience
that’s been bothering him? Or to continue working as operator even it’s hard on his part for the
sake of his family?
Step 2:
If joseph were to quit the job and look for another one, he will not be disturbed and
scandalized, and as a person raised as morally upright catholic by his religious parents, his
spiritual belief/ faith will not be affected and so people’s view but if he will not quit as a
religious person he will be judged by many for the kind of work his into, his family life will be at
stake in terms of financial, and there’s a big possibility that he can’t find a new job easily since
he didn’t finish college.
Step 3:
The following stakeholders that would be affected of what Joseph decision to be made
are:
His family (mother and his siblings) - their life status, what people might say, probably his
siblings views toward him would be affected
Society-
Step 4:
The first option would be:
1. To quit the job and look for another in that case his soul would be at peace, he can avoid
immoral act, can avoid committing sin and so other people that might be involved.
The second option would be:
2. To continue the said job as an operator, it is quoted there that he is hardworking and smart
person, he can find strategies or he can be a voice to suggest or convince the owner to innovate
things without doing immoral act. By suggesting what’s good for everybody as their target
market I’m sure it would be a big break for the company to realize this ideas.
Step 5:
As I deepened and weighing this case thoroughly, the best thing to do is for joseph to quit
the job, though their financial status would be at stake, but I know it’s just for a meantime, he
can find another job which is decent although it may be hard at first many challenges he might
encounter but I know our Heavenly Father will guide him through the way, because I believe
God gives His hardest battles to His strongest soldier. By, quitting the job and not doing immoral
act it pleases the Above. On the other hand, joseph will be at peace, he wouldn’t be disturbed and
scandalized anymore. I know that quitting that kind of job would make his family proud as well
his father in heaven.
Step 6:
This quote ” di bali ng magutom wag lang galing sa masama” can be connected to the
choice that I’ve been choosing, by quitting the job would lead to financial at stake, no assurance
that he can find a new job that have a high salary . And as a person grows in a religious family,
his faith will stay high and strong.
Step 7:
This ethical problem could have been prevented in the first place, if before changing the
concept, doing or applying a pornographic activity they look for another ideas or innovate things
that can lead to a bright side without engaging and committing sin to someone. In connection

with that, the views of the people will be normal, the religious act would not be affected. Above
all, the society will be at peace.
