Sequence of events On March 25, 1897, the gathering at Tejeros was finally
convened. The main point of their discussion is to
strengthen the defenses in the areas that are still under
the Magdiwang control. They have prepared the following
positions: president, vice president, minister of finance,
minister of warfare, minister of justice, and captain
general to proceed to the election.
Before the election began, the Supremo justified that the
winner for each position should get the highest number of
votes regardless of his status in life or educational
background.
Mr. Diego Mojica, the Magdiwang secretary of treasury,
warned the Supremo that most of the ballots distributed
were not filled out by the voters themselves. The
Supremo disregarded this.
When the votes for the position of president were
counted, Mr. Emilio Aguinaldo’s votes surpassed Mr.
Andres Bonifacio’s votes, he was elected as the
president. Mr. Severino de las Alas suggested that Mr.
Bonifacio should be proclaimed as the vice president
considering he got the second highest votes. Since
nobody approved nor disapproved of the proposal, they
proceeded to the election.
Mariano Trias was elected as the vice president, General
Vibora was elected as the captain, Mr. Emiliano R. de
Dios for the secretary of war, and Mr. Bonifacio for the
secretary of interior. Then the crowd applauded and
yelled “Mabuhay!”
The election hasn’t finished yet, Mr. Daniel Tirona
requested for the restoration of order against Mr.
Bonifacio. He suggested Mr. Jose del Rosario to replace
Mr. Bonifacio since Mr. Bonifacio has no credentials as to
why he is deserving of the position. But Mr. Bonifacio
stood up and defended himself, he said that they should
abide by the appointed rules before the election started--
that the candidate is not required to have an educational
background or any status in life.
Causing embarrassment, Mr. Tirona ignored the
Supremo and left. The Supremo declared all the topics
discussed in the meeting null and void.
