Understanding Cancer Variability

The effects of cancer can vary between individuals for several reasons: 1. Cancers grow and spread at different rates, with some types growing rapidly and others more slowly. 2. Certain cancers form visible tumors while others like leukemia do not. 3. Individuals may have weaker immune systems making it more difficult to fight cancer.

1.

In your opinion, what must be the reason why the effect cancer in one
individual is different from another individual? Explain your answer.

- Cancer describes the disease that results when cellular changes cause the
uncontrolled growth and division of cells. Some types of cancer cause rapid
cell growth, while others cause cells to grow and divide at a slower rate that
is why the effects of cancer may vary.. Certain forms of cancer result in
visible growths called tumors, while others, such as leukemia do not. Most of
the body’s cells have specific functions and fixed lifespans. Some also may
have weaker immune system that maybe difficult for them to fight cancer.

2. Grade is the pathological diagnosis, a reflection of how abnormal cells look

under the microscope in cancer cells become regulated and proliferate
abnormally this is called dysplasia, as dysplasia develops, the cancer cells
lose features of their tissue origin become less and less differentiated and are
presumed to be of higher grade.

Staging Cancers is when they give an indication of the degree of spread .

Understanding the degree of spread . Staging is important for several
reasons: Staging helps the doctor plan the appropriate
treatment. Cancer stage can be used in estimating a person's prognosis.
Knowing the stage of cancer is important in identifying clinical trials that
may be a suitable treatment option for a patient.

3. Test includes physical exams

-Imaging studies like CT scan /MRI scan

-lab test

-pathological or surgical reports.

4. TNM staging system is the most common.

T- tumor

-Referes to the extent f the local tumor and primary tumor growth.

+T0: No primary tumor that can be assesed

+TIS : Carcinoma in situ

+T1,2,3,4: represents the size and extend of the local tumor

N-nodal status

M-Metasthasis

A system to describe the amount and spread of cancer in a patient's body,

using TNM. T describes the size of the tumor and any spread of cancer into
nearby tissue; N describes spread of cancer to nearby lymph nodes; and M
describes metastasis (spread of cancer to other parts of the body).
