CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Issues and Concern on K-12 Education Curriculum

By: Mr. Harold Tumaliuan

Principal
San Pablo Central School

1. Lack of Learners’ Materials and Facilities.

2. Personal Solution on Lack of Learners’ Materials:

Make my own Learners’ Materials on Manila paper; photocopy the limited
Learners’ Material to achieve 1:1 Learning Material-Pupil Ratio, use old
textbooks with similar competencies found in the K to 12 textbooks.

Personal Solution on Lack of Facilities:

Seek the assistance of various stakeholders (PTA, LGU & NGOs), resort to
improvisation of equipment/facilities using indigenous or locally available
materials.

3. Recommendation:
The DepEd should prepare and develop the Learning Materials and Facilities head
of time to avoid shortage and delay in the delivery of Learning Materials and
Facilities.

1, Philippine education has totally made reformation to assure the Filipino

educators to become and prepare them for better future. In consonance with it,
Philippines has implemented the K-12 curriculum which is currently run the
education system of our country. But despite of its excellent advocacy, there are
still issues that DepEd are still facing like lack of classrooms, school facilities and
books. There are parents also who are not favor of the said curriculum because
they think that it prolongs their burdens( school expense, allowance of their
children)

2. Personal Solutions:
Make an comprehensive orientation for the parent about the advocacy of K-12
curriculum. The parent should well informed about what is K-12 and what K-12
for.
If there are no available tangible books, make some efforts as an implementor
to browse the webs and download printable learning materials to make learning
fun, easy and fruitful. As an educator, I will seek help to the stakeholders of the
school like LGUs to allot budget for the construction of school buildings.

3. Recommendation:
The DepEd should make a careful study about existing curriculum to avoid
more issues. They must see to it that the materials needed in the implementation
must be provided. From DepEd Secretary down to teachers, they must join in
hand to fully realize the advocacy of the curriculum by providing quality
education to every Filipino learners.
