Hydraulic Press: A Force Multiplier Explained

It is easier to swim in the sea than a lake because sea water provides more buoyant force due to its higher salinity. Hydraulic presses are called force multipliers because they use hydraulics to increase a small applied force. According to Archimedes' principle, an object immersed in a fluid experiences an upthrust equal to the weight of the fluid displaced; this principle explains how hydrometers measure density and how ships float. Pulling a bucket of water from a well is easier when submerged due to upthrust, but harder when out of the water due to gravity. Ships made of iron float despite their iron material because their large volume reduces their density below that of water, unlike a denser

It is easier to swim in sea or ocean than in a Rara lake, Why?

 It is easier to swim in sea water than in river water because we observe more buoyant force
in sea water due to its hardness than in river water.

Why is hydraulic press is called a force multiplier?

 Hydraulic press is called a force multiplier because small force can be increased by

using hydraulics.

State Archimedes principle and give any 2 applications.

 It states that when a body is immersed wholly or partially in a liquid at rest,it experiences an
upthrust. The upthrust is equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by the immersed part of
the body and its upthrust acts through the center of gravity of the displaced fluid.
 Two Applications are:
 Hydrometers, which are used for determining density of liquids.
 designing ships and submarines.

It is easier to pull a bucket of water from a well until it is inside the water but difficult When it is out
of water, why?

 It is easier to pull the bucket of water from a well until it is inside the water but difficult
when it is out of the water because upthrust acts when the bucket is under water and
gravity acts when the bucket is out of the water.

Why does an iron nail sink in water but ship made of iron floats?

 Because density of iron nail is more than the density of water so it sinks . But density of iron
ship is less than density of nail as it's volume is more than nail and volume is inversely
proportional to density. thus the ship floats.

At high altitudes, nose bleeding is a common experiences, why?

 Nosebleeds can be caused by being up in a very high altitude. As you climb higher, the
amount of oxygen in the air decreases. This makes the air thinner and dryer, which can in
turn cause the inside of your nose to crack and bleed

Write any four applications of atmospheric pressure?

 Straw
 Vacuum cleaner
 Siphon
 Lift pump/handpump
