12.1 Applications
PDMS Utilises a suit of Integrated Multi Discipline Applications and “Add On”
Applications. (MDS, Clash Manager etc)
Any problems with the Standard/Developed Applications will be brought to the attention
of the PDMS CAD Coordinator or his deputy. On no account will Users directly contact
Software Suppliers to report problems. This is due to strict procedures that are in place
between CB&I UK Limited and Software Suppliers.
Any PDMS Interface Program / Application problems will be discussed with the PDMS
CAD Coordinator or his deputy and investigated to assess “Fit for Purpose”.
On no account will Users contact or arrange demonstration with any outside Software
Suppliers without the prior consent of the CAD Section Head.
The RFSU area coding system is crucial for managing the functionality of the PDMS 3D model by setting AREA CODE attributes according to specific construction areas. This ensures that the programs for the Clash manager and progress reports operate correctly, maintaining clarity and precision during construction phases. For example, the AREA CODE like 103 is specifically for the Naptha Tank Area, which aids in maintaining accurate progress tracking and clash resolution .
The RFSU1 site datum is determined using the coordinates E. 236609.6163, N. 460592.0245, and U. 1.70, which are relative to the Ras Laffan Industrial City Qatar National Grid Coordinates. This site datum is essential for ensuring all site and zone positions are accurately set, following the prescribed Y (North) and Z (Up) orientation without deviation. This uniformity in position and orientation facilitates the coordination of modeling and deliverables, as all coordinates on drawings are based on this datum in millimeters relative to PDMS WORLD Coordinates .
Maintaining discipline-specific PDMS plot files is significant for construction phases as it ensures that accurate, up-to-date information is readily accessible for every department involved in the project. This approach facilitates discipline-focused insights and allows for precise coordination on the ground, minimizing the risk of errors. The standardized storage and categorization of these plot files enhance the efficiency of information exchange and support seamless project execution, while also maintaining a comprehensive archive for future reference and compliance verification .
The PDMS 3D CAD Model is pivotal in conducting formal engineering design reviews by providing a comprehensive digital representation of the project which can be evaluated during various completion phases (30%, 60%, 90%). This process is essential for ensuring the design meets both technical specifications and project requirements. The model facilitates multi-disciplinary coordination and allows for the identification and resolution of potential design issues before they manifest physically. This prevents costly downstream errors, maintains high-quality control, and adheres to the Shell DEP 30.10.05.11-Gen guidelines .
The Purpose and :DCODE attributes serve vital roles in ensuring effective project management by categorizing each site and zone within the Shell Pearl GTL Tankage Project into specific disciplines and activities. By setting these attributes, the project can harness dynamic data management, enabling precise clash management, reporting, and drawing production processes. For instance, the Purpose attribute categorizes areas into specific functionalities like 'CIVI' for Civils or 'PIPE' for Piping, promoting streamlined coordination and clarity in project deliverables .
Site-specific drafting conventions ensure consistency and clarity across piping drawings by maintaining uniformity in symbols, scales, and annotations. This standardization enhances the readability of drawings and reduces the potential for misinterpretation or errors in construction. Furthermore, it promotes a coherent integration of designs from different project areas, facilitating smooth collaborations among varied disciplines while strictly adhering to project standards .
Clashes identified in the PDMS model are resolved through a structured process involving the Clash Manager. Each clash is evaluated by the relevant discipline and documented with a status such as ‘PENDING’ for unresolved items or ‘CONDITIONAL’ for items needing further work. This status, along with user comments, is recorded with a username and date when flagged. The Clash management database is updated regularly to reflect changes and resolutions, ensuring transparency and providing a clear record of issue resolution progress within the project framework .
The PDMS project documentation ensures accessibility and distribution by storing all drawings on a shared project drive, organized by discipline. File formats such as DXF and PDF are used, allowing easy sharing and minimizing version conflicts. The standard format and naming conventions applied to files facilitate streamlined access and uniform document retrieval across the project. This centralized system ensures that each discipline can efficiently access the necessary drawings and minimizes administrative overhead in document handling .
The creation of default sites for different areas standardizes the infrastructure for multidisciplinary drawing processes. It provides a structured base that organizes different disciplines within each area (e.g., architectural, civil, electrical). This segmentation mitigates the risk of data mismanagement and inconsistency, thereby streamlining the production and cross-reference of drawings across various engineering disciplines. This standardized site setup supports accurate and efficient drawing production and management .
AVEVA Review software plays a critical role in maintaining project transparency and collaboration by providing comprehensive access to the entire multi-discipline 3D CAD model without necessitating in-depth PDMS knowledge. This software enables project personnel to interact with and review the current model weekly, thereby fostering informed decision-making and facilitating collaborative problem-solving across different teams. It ensures everyone is aligned with the most recent design updates and project status .
