Seminar: The Psychometric Properties
The seminar talked about the duties and responsibilities of being a psychometrician.
Their duty is to oversee standard performance and appraisal procedures. Their job plays a major
role in creating and evaluating the tests validity and reliability, and even psychological
assessments. In the seminar, the speaker further discussed the psychometric properties of tests,
its reliability, validity, measurement error , internal consistency and the factors that affect these.
It was very helpful because as of the moment, we are doing our thesis and these information
helps use determine if we are using the correct tests to measure the variables in our study, their
relationships and its significance. It was an overview of the topics we had taken from our first
year in psychology until now that we are fourth year. Also, it is helpful for those who want to
take the psychometricican test like me. The discussion was a review of what was in introduction
to psychology, experimental psychology and research in psychology. The speaker was very
funny and was challenging our knowledge. The seminar refreshed my mind and it has gotten me
to try harder on doing my thesis.
Overall, the seminar was very helpful. For I want to be a psychometrician and a clinical
psychologist one day. It will be very helpful to know the psychometric properties, whether I’ll be
a clinical psychologist, industrial psychologist or even as an educator, this is the basic foundation
of psychology. Seminars like this inspire students to push through and achieve more in life. I will
apply the newly learned knowledge that I had learned that day in my future endeavours.
