Complete Metamorphosis

Problem Statement
Objectives
1. To learn how insects change in form as they grow.
2. To consider the advantages of undergoing the process called ‘Metamorphosis’.
Introduction
Complete metamorphosis is a process that is being described as the mode of development of
insects that go through four crucial stages which is the first stage is egg, second stage is larva,
the third stage is pupa and the last but not least stage is the adult stage or in scientific name it
is called as imago. There are many insects that go through complete metamorphosis process.
For examples beetles, butterfly, frog, ants bees, and many more. Ladybug is also an example
for complete metamorphosis. Ladybug pass through four vital stages. It starts as eggs. When
the egg hatches, a larva comes out. The larva resembles a worm and will feed frequently so
that it can grow as fast as possible. As the larva reached the maximum size, it changes into
the third stage which is pupa. Usually, pupa cannot move or eat. During the third stage, larva
changes into adult that will look different from the larva. Typically it looks more like a
protactive casing. While inside the pupa, the ladybug will excrete some digestive juice so that
it can be destroyed more of the larva’s body, leaving a few cells intact. The remaining cells
will begin the growth of the adult, using the nutrients from the broken down larva. The fourth
and final stage is adult stage which include a fully developed ladybug with wings and
reproductive organ.
