A. The average travel time of a student from home to school is 90 minutes with standard
deviation of 8.5 minutes.

1. What is the probability that a student’s home-to-school travel time is over 100
minutes?

P (x > 100)
Z = (100 - 90) / 8.5 = 1.18
Area = .88100 = 1 - .88100 = 0.11900

2. What is the probability that a student’s home-to-school travel time is either


under 70 minutes or over 95 minutes?

P (70 > x > 95)


Zupper = (95 – 90) / 8.5 = 0.59
Zlower = (70 – 90) / 8.5 = -2.35
Aupper = .72240 = 1 - .72240 = 0.2776
Alower = .00939
Area = 0.2776 + .00939 = 0.28699

3. What is the probability that a student’s home-to-school travel time is less than 60
minutes?

P (x < 60)
Z = (60 – 90) / 8.5 = -3.53
Area = .00021

4. What is the probability that a student’s home-to-school travel time is between 65


minutes and 110 minutes?

P (65 < x < 110)

Z = (27,000 – 20,000) / 2,650 = 2.64
