VISIT REPORT OF ICDS

INTRODUCTION
Integrated Child Development Services Program was introduced in 1974 and started in 2 nd
October, 1975 in pursuance of the National Policy for children in West Bengal. Currently most
important scheme in the field of Child Welfare is ICDS scheme. Today it presents one of the
world’s largest and most unique program for early childhood development. It is designed both as
preventive and development effort. This services are provided through Public Health Infrastructure
that is subcentre, PHC and CHC.
We, the [Link] Nursing students of KINS, KIIT Univerisity, visited Bhola Anganwadi School under
Bhola Primary School on 24th may 2016 from 8a.m. to 10 a.m.

OBJECTIVES OF ICDS
 Improve the nutritional health status of children between 6 month to 6 year of age group.
 Lay out the foundation for proper psychological,physical & sociala development of the child.
 Reduce the incidence of mortality,morbidity,malnutrition & school dropouts.
 Achieve effective co-ordination of policy & implementation among he various department to
promote child development.
 Enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health & nutrition & needs
through proper nutrition & health education.

OUR OBJECTIVES
 To know the beneficiaries,function,structural set up,staffing pattern of the ICDS centre.
 To perform assessment of the child skillfully.
 To provide the health education to the mother as well as children about different
aspects(nutrition,personal hygiene,informal education etc.)

It was started from December 1983.

FUNCTION OF ICDS
 Monthly meeting is held once in 1st week of every month with mothers regarding nutrition,
immunization, informal education etc.
 Providing nutrition.
 Pulse Polio Immunization.
 Outreach Camp is held on every 1st Thursday.
 Health Checkup.
 Informal education.
 Growth chart record.
 Health education regarding personal hygiene, communication with peer groups etc.

CONCLUSION
We have visited this ICDS centre & gained a lot of experience about this ICDS such as
beneficiaries,function,structural set up, staffing pattern & registers maintained etc. We are very
much thankful Madam Pinu Roy,Principal Dr.H.C.M.M. Health School, Madam Asima
Chakraborty, Nursing Tutor, Madam Mithu Dey ,PHNO & Mrs. Anita Dey(ICDS Worker) for
giving this opportunity.
