GETTING STARTED
PLEASE CONSULT THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE OPENING THE FILES,
PARTICULARLY IF YOU’RE STILL LEARNING INDESIGN.
PREVIOUS VERSIONS
All our templates are designed in the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud,
but this doesn’t mean that you can’t open them in earlier software.
1. In the .zip file open the folder labelled CS4-5-6.
2. Right–click the file ending in .idml and select ‘Open
with Indesign CS4’ (or CS5/CS5.5/CS6)
3. The file will open in the desired software. Once open it will be
named ‘Untitled’, immediately save it with a new file name.

LAYERS: COLOR CODED
Each separate element of the templates are placed on their own layers for convenience
when editing. They are color coded accordingly so you can lock and hide layers
making your editing easier. Below is a description of how things are organised:
• RED: Master
Elements are placed on the master page
so they stay above all the other elements
in the document. These may only exist
on the master page and not throughout
the document if you wish to edit.
• BLUE: Text
All text boxes are included on this layer. This is
where you’ll be doing most of your editing.
• GREEN: Graphics
Any elements that are not text boxes, but
may need edited or moved are on this layer.
• MAGENTA: Images
Place-holder image frames are on this layer,
keeping them separate for convenience.
• GREY: Background
This layer includes graphic elements, but they
won’t need to be moved unless necessary.
These can usually be ignored. Graphics are on
this layer to ensure they stay at the back.

imagery. As a result we have used place-holder imagery.
To add your own images, simply follow these few steps:
1. Select any place-holder image frame.
2. Go to File > Place (CMD/CTRL + D).
This will open a dialog box where
you can locate your chosen image.
3. Click Open and your image will
be placed within the frame.
4. You can then use the Direct
Selection Tool (A / White Arrow)
to move, scale and crop the image
within the frame until you’re happy.
5. To change the image later,
just repeat these steps.
