Igneous Rock Formation

Igneous rocks form when magma cools and hardens either underground or above ground. There are several types of igneous rock formations including batholiths, which are large underground formations; laccoliths, which push up rock layers dome-shaped; and sills, flat sheets of rock that formed between existing rock layers. Dikes are vertical sheets of rock that cut through existing layers. Lava forms when magma reaches the surface through volcanoes.

types of rock. Magma does not always make it to the surface as lava in a volcano
