between individuals and/or groups through a flow of information.
Strategy: 3I’s Approach (Introduction, Interaction, and Integration)

III. Learning Experiences / Methodology

Flow of Activity Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. PREPARATION
i. Greetings Good morning class… "Good morning Ma’am.”
How are you all doing today? Is it good
so far? “We’re doing great Ma’am.”

That’s great to hear. I am hoping that

everyone will participate in our lesson
for today.

ii. Prayer But before we start, let us all stand for

the prayer.
____, will you please lead the prayer? “Yes Ma’am.”

(____ leads the prayer)

Thank you, ______.

iii. Setting Learning Before you sit down, make sure that
Environment your chairs are properly aligned and (Everybody will arrange their chairs
pick up the pieces of dirt under your and pick up the pieces of dirt)
chair. Minimize unnecessary noise so
that we can have a better interaction, “Yes Ma’am”
ok?
iv. Checking of
Attendance Are there any absentees today in the “None Ma’am”
class?

That’s great!
B. LESSON PROPER
1. Introduction Now, who remembers what we have
1.1. Recall of the discussed last meeting?
previous ________, what did we discuss last “Ma’am last meeting we discussed
lesson meeting? about the five functions of
communication.”

And what are these functions, _____? “The five functions are control,
social interaction, motivation,
Very good. Since we already discussed emotional expression, and
about the functions, our next topic is of information dissemination.”
course related to those functions.
I prepared a little game for you. Do you
all know how to play charades?

1.2. Motivation Great. I will be dividing you into two “Yes Ma’am”
groups. This will be the group one and
this will be the group 2. For those who
don’t know, all you have to do is to
guess the words or phrases that one of
your group mates will act out without
speaking. You have 2 minutes to guess
as many words or phrases as you can.
You can pass to the next word if you
find the current word difficult. The
group who gained the highest points
will win and will receive a prize. Both
groups will play the game “Yes Ma’am”
simultaneously. Understand?

Alright. Let’s begin.

Words to guess:

Alright. Time’s up.

Group 1 got n points and Group 2 got n
points so the winner is Group __. I will
be giving you your prizes later after the
discussion so you better remind me,
okay?
1.3. Presentation
of the Topic So, that little game that you guys
played earlier has something to do with
our discussion for today. While playing,
how did your representative conveyed “Ma’am we communicated through
the words to you guys? the use of non-verbal cues,
gestures, and actions.”

Very good. Based on that observation,

can someone guess what will be our
topic for today?
“Ma’am our topic for today is
I’d like to hear it from ___ about communication.”

That’s right!
1.4. Establishing
the Purpose Just like in every lesson, we always
have our learning objectives. Today
we’re going to learn about
communication and the process of
communication. Who would like to
read our objectives for today? “At the end of the lesson the
students should be able to:
Yes ________? 1. Define ‘communication’;
2. Explain the process of
communication; and
3. State the importance of
communication.”

Good. Thank you.

2. Interaction
2.1. Discussion Whether we are talking or texting,
video or voice chatting, tweeting, or
just simply commenting on a Facebook
status, what do we do? ______? “We communicate, Ma’am.”

That’s right. And how do we “Ma’am through our daily

continuously manage and enact our communicative experiences.”
relationship?

Correct. Just like what they always say,

communication is the key to a long
lasting relationship. So couples,
remember.

Based on those things, what do you

think is the meaning of
communication? “Communication is…”
Any volunteer?

Alright. Let’s see if your ideas are

aligned to the meaning of
communication. “Communication is the imparting
or exchanging of information. It is
_____ please read the definition of the process of relaying and
communication. receiving of information”

Great. You have the right idea about

communication.
Thank you _____. Communication is a
process by which information is
exchanged between individuals
through a common system may it be of “Ma’am, just like what we have
symbols and/or signs. Communication mentioned earlier, we can
comes in many forms. Can you give communicate through chats,
some examples of forms? Facebook comments, or twitter.
Also the charades that we played
earlier.”
That’s right. Communication is not
simply about spoken word in
conversations.

The working definition of

communication calls attention to
essential points.

The first one is communication involves

what? I have mentioned it earlier. “Communication involves people.”
Communication happens between…?
Yes ______?

Right. Of course. It involves people. You

cannot communicate with a chair, can
you?
“Communication involves shared
Second essential point, everybody meaning, which suggests that in
please read. order for people to communicate
they must agree on the definitions
of the term or symbols they are
using.”

“Ma’am, in order for you to

_____, what did you understand with communicate with someone
this essential point? effectively, make sure that you
both understands the language or
you both have the same definition
for a certain sign or symbol.”

That’s right. For example, I speak

French and you guys only speak the
English language. “Bonjour
mademoiselle. Bonjour monsieur.
Comment allez-vous?” Do you think we “No Ma’am”
will be able to communicate with each
other?

Right. Last essential point,

communication involving symbols-
gestures, sounds, letters, number, and
words can only represent the ideas “Ma’am, it states that…”
they are meant to communicate.
_____, can you please explain this?

Very good.
Okay. Let’s take a look at this picture.

“Ma’am the picture shows two

boys communicating using the tin
What do you guys notice? This picture can telephone and it also suggests
suggests what? the communication process.”
Yes ______?

That’s right. In order for an effective

communication to take place between
two or more individuals present in any
communication event, it undergoes in a
process. Communication is divided into
9 elements which will help us better
understand its process.
First is the speaker. _____, what do you
think is the role of the speaker in the “The speaker is the source of
communication process? information or message.

That is absolutely correct. How about “The message is the information or

the message? Any volunteer? Yes thoughts conveyed by the
____? speaker.”

That’s right. May it be in words or in

actions. Third one is encoding. In the “Encoding is the process of
communication process, what is converting the idea into words or
encoding, _____? actions.”

Yes. Or other forms that the speaker

understands. The fourth element is the
channel. What do you think is the role “The channel is the medium in
of channel here in the communication which the encoded message is
process? _____? conveyed.”

Very good. It can be verbal or non-

verbal, personal or non-personal. Next
is decoding. If there’s an encoding of
idea, there’s also a decoding of the “Decoding is the process of
message. What does decoding mean? interpreting the encoded message
sent by the speaker to the
Excellent _____. Of course, if there’s a receiver.”
sender or speaker of the message, we
shouldn’t forget the receiver. What is
the role of the receiver _____? “The receiver is the recipient of the
message.”
Correct. The receiver is someone who
decodes the message. Next element is “Feedback is the reactions or
the feedback. What is feedback? responses provided by the
receiver.”

How about context? “Context is the environment where

communication takes place.”
Lastly, the barrier or noise. What is the
role of noise in the communication “The noise is the factors that affect
process? the flow of communication.”

That’s correct. It is anything that

interferes the communication process
which can be external or the physical
sound that you can hear anywhere, or
internal or a mental disturbance.

With these elements given, how do you

think communication happens? How an
idea does gets from the sender to the
receiver? I would like to hear it from “The speaker sends ideas in verbal
______. or nonverbal form to a receiver. On
the other end, the receiver upon
receipt of the message and
decodes the message in order to
provide feedback. “
Excellent!

The sender or speaker generates the

idea. She/he then encodes the idea or
converts the idea into words or action.
Then, the message will be transmitted
or send out by the speaker using a
channel. The receiver will now decode
or interpret the message based on the
context. Finally, the receiver then will
provide feedback.

For example, you like her very much.

You started generating an idea on how
to tell her. You then used messenger as
a channel to send your message to her.
You said “I like you” then she got the
message and interpreted it. Of course,
the communication process won’t be
complete without the feedback. So,
you received a reply, which says “I like
you too, as a friend.”

Did you all understand? “Yes Ma’am”

2.2. Activity
Okay. For me to see if you really
understand the lesson, we will be
having an activity and this activity is by
pair. Choose your partner. I have here a
short video clip. All you have to do is
pay attention to details and you have to
answer the questions that follow.

1. Who is the sender/speaker? Who

is the receiver?
2. What is the message that the
sender tried to convey?
3. What is the medium or the
channel used by the speaker or
sender to communicate?
4. Did the receiver fully decoded or
interpreted the message easily?
Why? Explain.
5. Was the receiver able to provide
feedback? Support your answer.
What was the response or
feedback?

You have 15 minutes to answer. Write “None Ma’am.”

your answers on a whole sheet of “Yes Ma’am”
paper. Any questions?
Are you now ready?
Alright. Here’s the video clip. (Plays
video)

(after the video)

You may now start answering the
questions. 15 minutes starts now.
(after 15 minutes)

Alright class, time’s up. Who can “Ma’am the speaker in the scenario
answer question number 1? Yes _____? is the lady wearing a hijab and the
receiver is the deaf leady.”
That’s right. And what is the message
that the speaker tries to convey, “Ma’am she’s trying to ask the deaf
______? lady how to get to her destination.”

Very good. What was the medium or “Ma’am they used a device which
the channel they used to converts the speech into text.”
communicate?
I’d like to hear it from ____.
“Ma’am the receiver wasn’t able to
You were really paying attention. Very grasp the message easily because
good. How about question number 4, the environment or noise affected
____? their communication.”

“Ma’am, in the end the receiver

That’s right. Last question. ____, can was able to provide feedback. She
you please answer? told the lady that she’s going to the
same destination.”

Excellent! Do you now understand how “Yes Ma’am”

communication works?

Good job guys.

3. Integration
3.1. Application Based on our discussion, what’s the
role of communication in our lives? “Ma’am, in our daily lives,
communication plays a vital role.
We cannot learn everyday here in
That’s right. Anything else? school without communication.”

“In every aspect of our lives we

communicate. Communication
helps us to express our ideas and
feelings.”
Excellent. You can only tell your crush
that you like him/her through
communication. You just simply say ‘I
like you.’ And if you don’t get any
response, maybe he wasn’t able to
decode the message properly. Don’t
feel bad.

With our discussion, for you, what is

the importance of communication in
our daily lives? Yes ______?
How about you ______? “Ma’am for me, the importance of
communication…”
That’s great. “Ma’am for me, the importance of
communication…”

3.2. Generalization So, in our lesson today, what have you “Ma’am we have learned what
learned? communication is, how
communication works, and what
the importance of communication
in our life is. “
Do you have any questions or
clarifications?
