ent’s Message
October’s Meeting Report

October’s theme was Halloween.

There was a discussion on the election of officers.

President: Master Payne Fifield
1st Vice President: Evan Shuster
2nd Vice President: Santiago Naranjo
Secretary: Craig Colombel
Treasurer: Brian Melicher
There was discussion on the change of cost for the lectures. Next year (2020) there will no longer be a member
price for the lectures. The lectures will now cost everyone $30. If a person wants to save on lectures one could buy
a season ticket. A season pass will cost $100 for five lectures. This will come out to be $20 per lecture. Only 25
season passes will be sold. Get yours now.
We then saw a video clip from the LA Conference on Magic History.
Dave Callahan performed the 3 Ace trick. A first the cards were all face down and with a snap of the fingers the
cards turned face up one at a time until all the Aces were face up. Dave then turned the cards back face down and
all the backs turn into mirrors and turning face up again the faces were now blank.
Evan Shuster performed a card prediction using his cell phone, and a yellow stickie. Use the cell phone to have the
person randomly chose a number, a prediction was written on the stickie and the card at the number chosen was
remove from the deck and match the prediction on the stickies.
Payne showed the club a metal bucket from Bed Bath and Beyond that what he was looking for to use for the
miser’s dream. He showed a vanishing bag he will use for Knots of Silk trick, and a Pelican Gimmick from Vanishing
Inc. Payne informed the club he will be preforming in Virginia City at a wedding. Payne also showed a coin holder
he got from Magic Live which lead to a discussion on coins and where to get soft coins. One can get them from
coin dealers ask for slicks.
Tom gave a report on the IBM convention, this was a follow up in his report in a previous newsletter. He
participated in the Guinness World record attempt for the largest linking rings set up, he showed us some pictures
of the convention. He was able to go to the Doug Henning collection and showed us his print of Chung Ling Soon.
There was a discussion about the Lance Burton show in Federal Way, WA and we were informed that Hale’s Ales
Palladium in Seattle was presenting a magician per month.

After the meeting we went for pizza and more discussion on magic and good times.
Hope to see you this Thursday the 10th.
Come to a meeting and show off your magic.

We meet on the second Thursday of each month, 7pm at the Kenmore Library, in Kenmore WA.

The Northwest Ring of Fire
IBM Ring #339
By Evan Shuster

Hello everyone!
Well… here it is: My final message as your club president.

First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you for your support and enthusiasm over the last two years,
from the meetings, to the lectures, to the amazing convention that we hosted in 2018. Magic is so much more
fun when you have a terrific group of people to share it with, and I have had the good fortune to share it with
each of you.

In December the new club officers (some not so new ☺) will take their positions.
• President: Master Payne Fifield
• 1st Vice President: Evan Shuster
• 2nd Vice President: Santiago Naranjo
• Secretary: Craig Colombel
• Treasurer: Brian Melicher

As we head into the new year I encourage you to remain (or become) engaged in the meetings and club
activities. Contribute to this newsletter. Attend a few meetings. Come see a lecture (or 5).
We are a small club held together by a group of passionate performers and enthusiasts. Your active
participation, and continued membership is the glue that holds it all together.

Mark Strivings is a full-time pro based in the Denver area. He has lectured throughout the US, performed for 'Monday
Night Magic' on Broadway, headlined twice for MINDvention in Las Vegas, lectured twice for Penguin Magic's online

7
series, lectured at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and been a featured lecturer/performer for the Psychic
Entertainer's Association on several occasions.

His material is featured in the acts of a number of working professionals the world over, and he is in high demand as a
consultant. In addition to his many published works on magic, mentalism, and kids magic (in the pages of Genii, the
Linking Ring, Magic Magazine, M-U-M, Laugh-Makers, Syzygy, The Magic Menu, Magick Magazine, The Altar Flame,
Oracle Magazine, Vibrations and more), Mark has also been featured on nearly 20 video productions. He is a prolific
creator with nearly 80 commercial releases,

Mark is often credited with having started the worldwide phenomenon of strolling magic with the publication of his
1996 classic book "Mobile Mentalism," a movement that has literally exploded in the years since then. He is also the
creator of the legendary Sight Unseen Case, recognized by Docc Hilford as”One of the top ten devices ever created for
the working mentalist."

As a working pro Mark is truly a general practitioner in that he performs magic, mentalism, hypnosis, close-up, parlor,
stage, strolling, kids and family, comedy and more, and his lectures reflect his wide experience.

Mark's new lecture, "G-Flat 9" truly has something for everyone from close-up to parlor to stage. Everything in the
lecture is very unique and all extremely simple to perform. In fact, be sure that you bring a deck of cards with you to the
lecture because you are going to perform a couple of the effects for yourself before you even learn them. It's a unique
experience, to say the least.

Even if you are very familiar with Mark's material, most of this new lecture will be brand new to you because Mark is
releasing material that he has been guarding closely, for decades in some cases.
