What is the Bible?
The Bible tells one expertly crafted story
from beginning to end.
But when we pick and choose
what we want to read, skipping the
confusing or uncomfortable parts,
we can miss the story.
The epic narrative that points to Jesus.
It’s a unified story about how God appoints humanity

and how God is restoring us
and our world through Jesus.
But it’s not a surprise
that many miss the
larger story.

There is a lot going on.

Distinct plots, characters,
and literary styles are spread
out across the different
books of the Bible.
But once you see how every book has a
careful literary design, you’ll be able to see
how they all fit into the overall storyline.
There are also important, repeated themes that weave
through the entire biblical story that help us make
sense of the bigger narrative.
Along the way, you’ll find strange words in the Bible that we don’t use
in normal language. But when we take time to understand them, we
can discover profound ideas that contribute to the overall story.
It takes work to know how to read the different types
of literature in the Bible, but the Bible is a book meant
for a lifetime of reading and study, rich with details
once you learn to see them.
You’ll discover that the Bible is a work of literary genius that can
transform how you live and how you think about everything.
We want to help people

ROSEANGELA
Dear Patron,
It’s such a privilege to produce these videos
and other resources that show how the Bible
is a unified story that leads to Jesus.
We started this project with the basic conviction that a lot more peo-
ple would engage the Bible if they understood how it actually works
and how beautiful it is. It has been amazing to see the truth of this
and hear stories from people all over the world experiencing the Bible
in a new way.

And if working on these videos wasn’t cool enough, we also get to

give our resources away for free. And that’s true, kind of. Our videos
are free to watch, download, and incorporate into any curriculum. But
they’re not free to produce. They’re made possible by the generosity
of people like you.
Not long ago, we were in a team meeting, and someone suggested
that instead of saying that our videos are “free,” we should say that
they’re “already-paid-for.” It’s kind of an awkward turn of phrase, but
it’s exactly right! All of the resources we make at BibleProject are avail-
able for free because they have already been paid for.

It’s a unique business strategy. Most business plans go something

like this: investors see an opportunity to make something valuable,
then the company makes that thing, and then they sell it. It is an ef-
fective business model, but we wanted to try something different. We
saw something valuable that didn’t exist—short, animated videos that
show the unified story of the Bible that leads to Jesus—so we made
some and gave them away.

Then we asked our audience to consider joining in so that we could

make more content. To our surprise, hundreds of people jumped in to
help us produce more videos. Now there are thousands of supporters
who make this project possible.
Looking back, it was sort of a wild idea. Who in the world would give money Milestones
toward making videos that didn’t exist yet, just so we could give them away
to other people? It turns out, you did! You saw the value in what we were do-
