kind of a time capsule of information being passed down for years and years, which
makes it understandable today and make point of its relevance.

Essential Questions
The students/pupils will keep considering the following:
1. How does literature help in expressing appreciation and love of one’s culture?
2. How do people use literature as a vehicle to understand the society of the past relevant to
today?

I.PRELIMINARIES:
Focus: Simile Sentence Construction

Review: How do we distinguish simile from metaphor?

Activating prior knowledge: The teacher will tell statements that the students need to act
out.
1. Bark like a dog
2. Stand tall like a tree
3. Act as if you are a princess/prince
4. Act like a traffic officer
5. Sing like a mermaid
What did you notice from the statements?

Motivation: The teacher will ask the students to identify who they think they look like. They
have to start with the phrase: I BELIEVE THAT I DEFINITELY LOOK LIKE _______________,

Instruction: Creative Similes! Similes can be used to compare two concepts. A creative simile
uses a word that has two different meanings. For example, the word “fine’ means both “alright or
okay” as well as “a fee or required payment”. A simile such as: “He was as fine as the morning
sun.” will make use of the word and let you know the meaning.
