PRECAST PRESTRESSED CONCRETE DRIVEN PILES
[Link] DESIGN & MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Prestressed Concrete Piles are designed conforming AASHTO-LRFD Bridge Design
Specifications -2014 and PCI Design Handbook.
PCI Manual MNL-116 (Manual for Quality Control for Plants and Production of Structural
Precast Concrete Products) are being followed during the manufacturing process of Pre-Stressed
Concrete Piles.
[Link] SPECIFICATION OF MATERIALS
CONCRETE
For precast prestressed piling, Grade C 35 (35 MPa) is commonly used.
STRUCTURAL REINFORCING STEEL
Structural Reinforcement conforming the requirements of ASTM A36 is being used as the spiral
reinforcement of the prestressed concrete piles.
PRESTRESSING STRAND
270K tensile strength, seven-wire Prestressing strand, conforming to requirements of ASTM Designation
A416 are generally being used for PC Pile. Specification of the Prestressing strand according to ASTM
A416 are as follows:

[Link] CRITERIA FOR PRECAST PRESTRESSED CONCRETE PILE HANDLING, LIFTING
& PITCHING
Method of Two point lifting and pitching is used for lifting, handling & pitching of the Pre-cast
Prestressed Concrete Piles. Precast Prestressed Piles are designed considering the stress developed during
handling & pitching.
[Link] CASTING YARD FOR PILES
The casting yard for piles will be selected close to the site of driving.
Adequately compacted free draining flat ground suitable to provide safe unyielding support to the
pile will be prepared.
Pile bed will be prepared by brick soling overlain by smooth finish cement mortar to sustain load
from completed pile as per drawing.
Whole construction yard shall be shaded to avoid the environmental disturbance during
manufacturing process.
[Link] FORM WORK FOR PILES
The pile form will be made of 1.8mm thick steel plates, flat bars, angle sections to produce pile
sections conforming to the requirements of specifications.
Sufficient sets of bottom shutter and side shutter will be provided.
All formwork shall be thoroughly cleaned and oiled by form oil before fixing.
All joints of pile form will be sealed with adhesive tape or puttying.
