0 COMPANY ANALYSIS

4.1 SWOT
SWOT analysis is one of the effective tool for the analysis of data for both
internal and external factors. Internal factors are the strengths and weaknesses of
the company while external refers to the opportunities and threats of the company. It
can be used to minimize the effect of weaknesses in business and maximize the
strengths. It helps in the development of a business by helping to strategize plans
and making crucial decision. It gives insight on new ideas and the action plans that
should be taken by weighing out the pros and cons of the business itself. It is simple
enough to be used for better understanding of the company as it is quite easy to do
the SWOT analysis. The analysis of the company should be done to establish strong
foundation of the business as well as to monitor performance of the business itself.

Solution: Market Development.

Action Plan: Develop new and varies kind of products to provide many other options
for customer’s wants. For example, the owner produces mushrooms
which can also be raw materials to many other food. For starter, the
simplest product is the mushroom crackers or ‘kerepek cendawan’.
Malaysians love a good crackers as snacking or having light tea which is
part of this country’s culture.

Advantages: Introducing new products can attract new customers and increase the
profit.

Disadvantages: Need more manpower to handle the production of new products.

S3: Taking courses regarding the products before starting the business to gain
knowledge

Solution: Establish partnership

Action Plan: Improve product quality by establishing partnership with well-known


agency (MARDI) can reduce the risk of being manipulated by foreign or
unknown agency. In other hand, they can share their expertise that can
help to improve the mushroom crops from being infected by diseases so
that they are resistant towards unwanted pathogens and do not cause a
huge loss to the business.

Advantages: Trade knowledge and share expertise with each other.

Disadvantages: Compete with many other competitors whose in the same business
from scattered areas instead of local ones.

W2: Need to catch up upon the datelines for the daily production.
T2: Less of good manpower.

Solution: Employee’s training courses.

Action Plan: Provide training to increase their knowledges and enhance skills
which can improve their jobs’ quality. Their basic necessities such
as shelter, food, reasonable salary should be provided so that they
can show loyalty and put trust into the employer. This is crucial as
humans tend to work harder when they are shown care and
respect.

Advantages: Problems of getting permanent workers can be overcomed if the


employees can come to trust the employer. Some cares and
respects are needed to give them enough reasons for them to stay.
Hence, the daily production can be easily handled when good
manpower is in hand. Training courses can greatly give positive
effects as they can learn how to be more efficient and work better.

Disadvantages: Sending employees to training courses cost quite some money


to the employer.

W3: Ups and downs cost for raw materials.


T3: Changes in political reign affect the pricing /economy in terms of cost.

Solution: Good suppliers.

Action plan: Always constantly keep an eye on suppliers that offer affordable
prices with good quality. It is important to the profit of the business
to get raw materials from good suppliers. Building connections and
keep relationships healthy with suppliers can bring benefits to the
business.

Advantages: Increase profits while getting better quality of raw materials.


Relationships can be established with suppliers from many different
areas which is actually very helpful and important for a business to
have strong connections among people. This way, the business can
be well-known to people.

Disadvantages: Need to be on the lookout every single time for suppliers,


wherever they may be. Transportation and cost for the journey
should be taken into consideration and account while
calculating for the raw materials’ prices. Changing suppliers too
often also has its own risk so the employer always need to
decide whether it is worth it or not.
5.0 BUSINESS PROBLEM, RECOMMENDATION AND IMPROVEMENT

Problem is inevitable in our life. Even in a small company or business, there will
always be problems. There is no way a thing can be so perfect. From our interview
session with the owner of the business, she did not directly state about the problems
that she is facing, however there are clearly some problems that we can detected.
