This document summarizes an experiment on filtration using filter paper. It describes how filtration can separate insoluble solids like sand and mud from water. The process involves passing a liquid mixture through a filter paper, which has tiny pores that allow only the liquid (filtrate) to pass through while retaining solid particles (residue). The experiment used a beaker, funnel, filter paper, sand, mud, and water, mixing the solids into the water then slowly adding it to the funnel containing the filter paper to separate the solids from the water by filtration.

Objective :- to understand how we can use filter paper for separation of
mud and sand from the water in the its mixture

Filter Paper Filtration

Filtration is a process by which insoluble solids can be removed from a
liquid by using a filter paper.
A filter paper is a special type of paper which has pores that are tiny enough
to let only liquids pass through it. If you pass a solution through filter paper,
any undissolved solid particles will get left behind on the paper whereas the
liquid will filter through.
The liquid that passes through is called the filtrate and the undissolved solid
particles are called residue.
Example: A mixture of sand or mud and water can be separated by this
method.

Apparatus & materials :_

1- beaker
2- Fennel
3- Filter paper
4- Sand & mud
5- Some mL of water
Procedure :-
1- Put some ml of water in the beaker
2- Prepare a mixture including sand and mud .
3- Put the mixture of sand and mud in the water
4- Shaking the water and mixture .
5- Prepare the filter paper and put in the fennel.
6- Put the fennel in the another beaker
7- Adding the mixture into the fennel slowly
8- Then observing the mixture ,the water can pass through the
filter paper but the sand and mud remained in the fennel
because of filtrated by filter paper
