A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade 7 (Algebra) : I. Objectives

The lesson plan teaches students how to multiply two binomials using the FOIL method. It begins with objectives, subject matter and procedures for the lesson. Examples are provided to demonstrate multiplying binomials step-by-step. Students work in groups to practice problems. The lesson emphasizes accuracy and cooperation when working with others to learn algebraic skills.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade 7 (Algebra)

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, 100% of the students with 80% level of proficiency should be able to:

1. Find the product of two binomials,

2. Develop accuracy in solving the given exercises,
3. Perform the multiplication of two binomials by using FOIL Method.

II.SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Special Products (Product of Two Binomials)

c. Materials: Projector, laptop, visual aids, chalk and board, manila paper, marker, flash cards
d. Concepts:
-A binomial is a polynomial with two terms.
- In Algebra xy means x multiplied by y and (a+b)(a−b) means (a+b) multiplied by
(a−b).
- The acronym F O I L stands for (First by First, [Outer by Outer + Inner by Inner], Last by
Last). These are instructions for finding the product of two binomials.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Daily Routine
a. Prayer

Class, let us pray

, lead the prayer
(A student will lead the prayer.)

Dear Lord,
Today let me see the right things, let me say
the right words; let me hear no wrong, guide me
to the right ways. Keep me safe from harm,
forever and ever. Amen.

Good morning, class!

Good morning, Ma’am!
b. Checking of Attendance

, is there any absent today?

(The attendance officer will answer.)
None, Ma’am.
Very Good!

c. Checking of Assignment

I had given you an assignment last meeting, so (The students will pass their papers properly.)
pass it properly.

B. Review of the Past Lesson

In multiplying integers, if the two numbers have
the same sign the product is always positive.
Let us have a quick review. May I know if
If the two numbers having different signs the
everybody can still remember about the
product is always negative, and if zero (0) is
multiplication of integers?
multiplied by any number the product is always
zero (0).

= x2
= 7x
= -6
Let us consider these examples: (Flash Cards) = 2x2
1. (x)(x) =9
2. 5x + 2x
3. (-9) + 3
4. (x2) + (x2)
5. 7 – (-2)

None, Ma’am.
Very good class!
Do you have questions regarding our previous
lesson?

C. Motivation

Before we start our lesson, let us have a game

first.
I will group you into two. Your group will be (Each group will shout their cheers.)
your group until the end of the lesson. But you
must have a group cheer. For example, “Go, go
fight…group one!
Let me hear your cheer.
I will give you pieces of puzzle for you to
complete. You have to guess the figure formed
by the puzzle for about three minutes. If you
already know the answer, just simply shout your
cheer for me to identify your group.
The first group who got the correct answer will
win and receive a prize. They will post their Yes, Ma’am!
puzzle in the board afterwards.

Is that clear?

Your clue, it is a type of polynomial consisting (The students will give their answers.)
of two distinct terms. BINOMIALS

Okay, let us start!

1,2,3...1,2,3.... Kayo na.

All answers are correct!
Group _ won the game. Let us give them a Boy
Abunda clap. 1, 2, 3…1, 2, 3… Birigud birigud.

And for the rest groups, let us give them Mommy

D. clap.

D. Presentation of the Lesson

Today, we are going to discuss the Product of

Two Binomials.
Larger square, two rectangles and a smaller
square.
E. Lesson Proper
Take a look in each portion of the puzzle it
forms a big square and the parts are?________.

The product of (ax + by) and (cx + dy), two

binomials having like terms, is presented
geometrically with the figure below.
Find the Area of each portion of the given
figure.
The area of each portion of the figure whose
sides are (ax + by) and (cx + dy), is simply the
sum of the areas of the regions comprising it,
namely:
T1=(ax)(cx)=acx2
T2=(by)(cx)=bcxy
=(ax)(dy)=adxy
T3=(by)(dy)=bdy2

Therefore, the area of the whole figure is ____.

Yes, __________.

Ma’am the area of the whole figure is

acx2 + (bc + ad)xy +bdy2.
Very Good! To find the product of two
binomials, what method are we going to use?

Exactly! And FOIL Method states the first term, We are going to use the FOIL method, Ma’am
outer, inner and the last term.

Examples:
1. Find the product of x+7 and x+3
From the given binomials, what is the first term?
_______.
(The student will raise their hands)

Correct! How about the outer and inner term,

_______. (x)(x)=x2
Very Good! How about the last term? ______. (x)(3)=3x
(7)(x)=7x
Then, the product of x+7 and x+3 is ______.
Yes, _______.
(7)(3)=21

That’s also correct

x2 +10x+21
2. Multiply (6x+7) (9x -8)
Can you give the product of the given binomials,
________?

=(6x)(9x) + (6x)(-8) + (7)(9x) + (7)(-8)

=(54x2) + (-48x) +(63x)+(-56)
=54x2 -48x +63x – 56
=54x2 +15x -56
Very Good!
Let us proceed to the next example.
3. Simplify (3x +2y) (4x -5y)

(The student will raise their hands)

Yes, _______.

=12x2 -15xy +8xy -10y2

=12x2 -7xy -10y2
Excellent!
Do you understand?

Yes, Ma’am!
F. Fixing Skills

Now, let us move on to your activity.

I will give you 5 minutes to write your answers
on the manila paper that I have provided.
As I called your group, you have to shout again
your cheer and then, one of the members will
post their answers on the board and explain.
Your cooperation to your group is needed.

(a slide will be flashed)

Find the product of the two binomials

1. (4a + 3) (5a + 4)

2. (7c + 2d) (3c – 8d)

3. (3- 5b) (6 - 4b)

4. (8u + 3vw) (3vw + 8u)

5. (6s -7t) (7t + 6s)

Precisely! Now class, always remember
that “No man is an Island”, therefore, in order to
gain an accomplished work together with other
individuals, one must always put in mind and
action how valuable honesty, cooperation, unity
and accuracy is, regardless of how far you could
go and what kind of people surrounds you.
And I’m very proud to say that you’ve
accomplished today’s activities with the said
values.
Give yourselves three amazing claps for your
achievement!

G. Generalization

Remember that in order to find the product of

two binomials, we use the _______.

FOIL Method, Ma’am!

That’s right! Will you state the meaning of this
method,________________. Ma’am F stands for First Term, O for Outer
Term, I for Inner Term and L for Last Term.
Definitely!
Do you have questions regarding our lesson None, Ma’am!

IV. Evaluation

Find the product of the following

1. (12x -5) and (8x – 14)
2. (x2 + 7) and ( x – 9)
