Note-making
As you all know that Note- making is a part of your syllabus. Comprehension Part
2 comprises the same with 8 marks which is mandatory for you all to attempt.
Hence, it is essential for you to thoroughly practice the same in order to gain full
marks. Knowing the errors you had made in the final exams in Grade 11. It is
important for you to do the task diligently.
Heading
It shows the title or the heading of note.
Subheading
As the name suggests, a subheading is a subdivision of the main topic. One can use as many
subheadings as he or she wants.
Point
Below subheading, there are some points which are the part of the main topics.
Sub-subheading
One can add more headings below the points for showing the category, types, advantages, etc.
Key or Keywords
The key portion of the note shows the various codes, symbols or the abbreviation used. It helps
to get a clear understanding of the keys used in the note making format.
The Procedure of Note Making
· Read the passage provided
· Underline the important sentences. It helps to make headings and subheadings
· Make a rough note first so as to get an idea
· Organize them in logical order or sequence for the final note
· Use the appropriate note making format
· Do not change the idea or the message of the passage
· Heading
What is the main idea of the passage? Frame a heading based on the central idea and write it in
the middle of the page.
· Subheadings
How has the main idea been presented and developed? Are there two or three
subordinate/associated ideas? You can frame subheadings based on these.
· Points
Are there further details or points of the subtitles that you wish to keep in these notes? Indent,
i.e., suitably space and number.
All subheadings should be written at a uniform distance from the margin.
· Indenting
All points should also maintain the same distance away from the margin.
Note: Do not write full sentences. And use abbreviations wherever necessary. Read below for
more help on abbreviations.
Points to Remember for Note Making Format
· Avoid using long sentences as heading or title
· Never lose the main idea of the passage
· Ignore information which is less important
· Be brief, clear, and specific
· Use logical sequencing
· Use proper indention
· Leave no spaces to avoid confusion
· Do not include your own version or understandings
· Use abbreviations
