1. SITE CONDITIONS
1.1 Location
The LNG PLANT SITE is located at Ras Laffan on the east coast of the State of Qatar, about 70
Kilometers to the north of the capital, Doha. The precise location is at the latitude 25°55' north,
longitude 51°35' east.
The land area allocated to the LNG Plant is part of a major planned development for Ras Laffan,
in which multiple industries using hydrocarbons as feedstock or fuel will ultimately be established.
Ras Laffan is a smooth sandy cape, flanked with low sand dunes. Behind the dune ridge, sabkha
occur. Inland of Ras Laffan is a vast plain covered with fragments of dolomitic limestone and
sparsely occurring patches of sand, generally collected around low shrub vegetation.
Atmospheric air is generally humid, saline and dusty.
1.2 Altitude
- Existing LNG Storage Area is at a formation level of 1.62m above Qatar National Height
Datum (QNHD). QNHD is 0.88m above Admiralty Chart Datum (ACD).
- Existing Condensate storage area is at a rough grade of 1.2m above QNHD.
- LNG Plant Site existing altitude ranges between 0.75 ~ 7.25m above QNHD. Refer to
Rough Grading Plan drawing for altitude of each area.

The reference level to be used for the project is the Qatar National Height Datum (QNHD). The
QNHD at the plant site is 0.88m above Admiralty Chart Datum.

The entire nearshore is underlain by limestone bedrock of the Sinsima Formation which occurs in
a series of wave cut terraces as indicated below.

1.4 Soil Characteristics
The soil characteristics can best be described as being composed of calcareous shell and

1.5 Environmental Summary
The RasGas Onshore Expansion Project Phase 2 Facilities shall be designed in accordance with
the following requirements:

1.5.3 Wastes
Wastes handling and disposal shall meet the requirements of PROJECT SPECIFICATION RG6-
S-00-1222-002, "Environmental Guideline".
1.5.4 Noise Control
For noise control requirements, refer to PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS RG6-S-00-1226-
001”Specification for Plant Noise Control” and RG6-S-00-1226-002 “Specification for Equipment
Noise Control”.
1.6 North Direction
Relationship between PLANT NORTH (temporarily assumed for plant construction purposes) and
TRUE NORTH is 27.953° as indicated below.
2. DESIGN BASIS
2.1 Air Coolers
Air coolers shall be designed on the basis of maximum ambient temperature of 43°C and a
minimum ambient temperature of 4°C.
Critical air cooled heat exchangers, e.g., exchangers for machinery cooling (e.g. lube oil cooling)
of Gas Turbines, Rotating and Utility Equipment, shall be capable of operating at a maximum
ambient temperature of 49°C (120°F) at a capacity that permits operation of these equipment
without tripping.
2.2 Compressors, Gas Turbines & Auxiliaries
Where indicated on the data sheets, GE Frame 9 mechanical drive gas turbines shall be used for
driving the mixed refrigerant, propane and nitrogen compressors.
GE Frame 6 gas turbines shall be used for Lean gas recompressor and main power generation
for the entire LNG PLANT complex.
2.3 Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning

”Technical Specification for Pressure Relief and Vapor Depressuring” and API Recommended
Practice Nos 520 and 521.

The main power shall be generated at SITE at 11,000 V, 3 PH, 50 Hz with a power factor of 0.8
lagging using GE Frame 6 Gas Turbine sets.
For AKG-2 Project, all power is supplied by Kahramaa, Substation A is fed 132KV from Kahramaa
and then to SS103.

3.3 Water System
3.3.1 Demineralized Water system
The demineralized water system shall provide the high purity water required for on/off-line
washing of the gas turbine compressors, mechanical seal barrier liquid of certain centrifugal
pumps and make-up water for boiler feed water. The demineralized water shall meet the
following specifications:

3.3.3 Fire Water System
Fresh water fire water system with back up by sea water shall be provided.

calcium and magnesium in quantities suitable for human consumption, as per World Health
Organization, a remineralization unit shall be furnished.

3.4 Air Cooling
In addition to fresh water coolers, certain exchangers shall be designed for air cooling. Design

3.5 Plant & Instrument Air System
Service air and instrument air shall be supplied from GTG (as extracted air from Gas Turbine
Generator) and/or electric motor driven centrifugal type air compressors. The power supply to the
drivers for these compressors shall be backed up by an emergency source. The design basis

Other water qualities except described in Section 3 are shown in RG6-S-90-1222-001 “Utility
Design Basis”.
4. REGULATIONS, CODES AND STANDARDS
The design of the RasGas Onshore Expansion Project Phase 2 (Train 6 & 7 EPC) Facilities shall
be based on the RasGas Onshore Expansion Project Phase 2 (Train 6 & 7 EPC) Specifications.
Local exceptions or deviations from the project specifications shall be reviewed and approved
by COMPANY.
5. UNITS OF MEASUREMENT
In general, the SI system of units shall be used.
For details, refer to Units of Measurement RG6-S-00-1221-002.
