GUIDE SOLUTION #1
STUDENT: Juan Diego Vargas Monterrosa
1. Look at the pictures and describe them.
RTA: It can be seen in the first image that the earth is deteriorating due to global
warming, in which it invites us to join in helping it, making energy savings, saving
water and recycling.
2. Find the statements which express a fact that will occur if a certain condition
is or isn’t given, and those statements which express something that would
happen if a certain condition was given
RTA:
• Saving water is something you can do every day.
• We should drive our cars less and ask car manufacturers to use "catalytic
converters" (a part of the car that helps prevent harmful fumes from getting
into the air).
• If you see litter thrown away, put it in the nearest trash can because it won't
go away for more than 200 years.
• You can also plant trees. Trees help clean the air we breathe.
3. Read each paragraph and find the words which express danger. Make a
chart:
PART 1
Danger, contamination, acid rain,
deterioration, heating, destruction,
extinction, garbage.
PART 2 Burns, gases, damages, automobiles,
gasoline, harmful fumes.
PART 3
Leak, waste, cigarettes, plastic, cans,
gases. Electricity.
2. Say if the following statements are true or false.
1. Many things are threatening life on Earth.
• True
2. Acid rain protects animals, rivers and plants.
• False
3. Young people are worried about the future of this planet.
• True
4. Animals are innocent victims of irresponsible humans
• True
5. One person alone can’t do anything to save the earth.
• True
3. Answer the following questions:
1. What makes the rain become acid?
RTA: What makes the rain become acidic are the invisible gases that mix with the
rain clouds, when this gas is discarded by automobiles, by burning gasoline and
power plants, by burning coal.
2. What is a “Scrubber”?
RTA: It is an automobile factory chimney, which cleans smog before fumes or
harmful gases are released into the sky.
3. How can you save water?
RTA: Closing the sink faucet when brushing our teeth and placing a plastic jar full
of stones in the toilet tank.
4. Why is it so important to dispose of garbage carefully?
RTA: Because this way we help that the animals that are in danger of extinction do
not die harmed or hanged by the plastics or cans.
5. What will happen if the Earth becomes too hot?
RTA: The places on earth that produce our food would disappear, as would the
rivers, seas, and lakes.
4. Read the following statements and select the one which best indicates
the purpose of the text.
¨To show that there are many things can do to sabe the Earth.¨
