Chapter 1

One of the biggest drivers of a successful business is efficiency, and the ability to automate routine
tasks is a great way to increase overall efficiency. With the accelerating growth of technological
advancement in every aspect of life and business, it has become an obligation for all companies to
have an IT department for managing technological concerns whether it is a large or a small
company.

At an even more basic level, by implementing the governance for the use of network and operating
systems, the IT department enables the company’s employees to communicate, collaborate and
automate routine tasks, and generally provide teams with the functionality they need to perform
their duties.

Here we are doing the project named “Networking System of Southtech Group”. It’s a small
organization. For this organization we are going to build a networking system to easily
communicate and do works by the employee’s in the that organization. The people who build this
networking system the roles are given below

• Sabbir Hossain (System Designer & System Builder)

• MD. Muhib Ullah (System Analyst)

Chapter 2

We are working on a project which is named by “Networking System of Southtech Group” in our
Data Communication and Network System course. In this project we are mainly building up a
network for an office which is very helpful for the future in office’s networking system. For this
network we use some switches, some routers, so many cables and some advanced technological
things. We also have a server room also in this network system. By using this smart networking
system, it is very easier for the office to collect all the data or information’s about the entire
employees and users of the office. Data loosing is also being reduced through using this networking
system. The full description of the networking system is briefly discussed in our report.

Definition of Networking:
Networking mention to the whole process of creating and using computer networks, with respect
to hardware, protocols and software, including wired and wireless technology. It includes the
application of theories from several technological fields, like IT, computer science and
computer/electrical engineering.

Need for Networking in our Chosen Sector:

As we are building up a networking system for chosen the commercial small office sectors that we
have to work with some networks. The networks that we are using for this project are LAN (Local
Area Network), MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), BN (Backbone Network) and WAN (Wide
Area Network).

Why we have chosen our preferred sector:

As we already discussed in the previous of the report that we have chosen small commercial office
for doing our project. We are mainly chosen our preferred sector because after doing a research
we are found that the small organization’s networking system of our country is not as good as the
other develop countries. That’s why they face many problems to run the business properly. So, we

6
have a thinking in our mind that if we can develop a smart networking system that are not creating
by any one than it is become very helpful for both the employees and owner of the organization.
Our networking system reduces the problem of data loosing very easily and have a strong
networking system that will helps to communicate with each employee easily and efficiently.

Challenges in Our Chosen Sector:

Developing the networking system of this organization does not only have opportunities, rather
also includes some challenges too. Some of these challenges include:

• A significant challenge is proper planning and financing in developing the network devices
and software programs.
• The designed network topology may not be 100% accurate.
• The network might not provide maximum security; intruder may attack the computers of
the network and steal confidential data of an organization.
• Over information from enormous data source can be create bottleneck in the network and
interrupt the system.

Goal of This Project:

• Implementing improved network for stable operation and efficient performance in the
organization compared to the competing other organizations.
• Proving a framework for further monitoring and maintaining the designed network
continuously.
• Providing faster connection between different departments’ computers and other wireless
devices such as Laptops, Smartphones, and Tablets for information sharing.
• Analysing the system’s capacity to determine its performance and recommend
enhancements for meeting ever-changing network demands.
• Delivering a network that eradicates bottlenecks.
• Providing a less costly and well-established networking system.
• Establishing a secured network so intruders cannot retrieve confidential information of the
organization.

7
• Ensuring network and IP connectivity of all workstations, application servers, and back-
end office infrastructure.
• Making budgets for network hardware and software procurement for further
improvements.
• Fulfilling the requirements of the system users.

Chapter 3

Network Architecture:
The basic design of our enterprise network includes a total of 4 parts-

1.Public Internet

2.ISP router

3.Head office router to Switches

4.Switches to LANs of the enterprise

A simplified diagram showing how the internet flows through the network we have proposed:

Chapter 4

Implementation:
In Cisco pocket tracer, there are three steps in the configurations to implementation of project
network consist of

Router Configuration:
Router0 consider data-regulated exchange between floors and other router in different places. First,
the router is named 0 and all the lines are supported with secret passwords. Router 0 Port Ethernet
Interface with other switches connected using subnet interfaces and all IP networks of VLAN have
been added. We can see that router0 used the serial Data terminal equipment (DTE) to connect
with the switch1 and router1.

Optical fibers are widely used in communication because they allow longer distances and higher
bandwidths (data rates) infections than other forms of communication. These interconnect devices
allow resources, peripherals and / or information to be shared.

Switching configuration:
Switch level are 2 devices and so much easier to configure than router. In most cases, the default
configuration switch of switches enables PCs and servers to be easily plugged-and connected to
the game. The main switch is created as VLAN Truncating Protocol server mode and VPP domain
can be set to be able to create, modify and delete VLANs because any changes to the server mode
will be changed to any VTP domain. The VPP VLAN information carries on all the switches in
the VTP domain, each VLAN is defined as the name. The current configuration, VPP and VLAN
commands are used to explain all the configuration of the main switch.

Servers Configuration:
There is a one server in the server room. The server is defined in DNS. The DNS server is a
computer server that contains a database of public IP addresses and their associated hosts, and
most often help to resolve or translate the IP addresses of the requested IP addresses. DNS servers

10
run special software and communicate with each other using special protocols. The DHCP option
on the Server tab adds an IP address of DNS servers and the default gateway IP address. Dynamic
Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network management protocol used on UDP / IP
networks, through which a DHCP server assigns an IP address and other network configuration
parameters to each device on a dynamic network so they can communicate with other IP networks.

11
Chapter 5

The Design:
Planning
• Ensuring minimal data traffic and data collisions. To make this possible, we have used
separate switches in separate departments.
• Assigning IP addresses and subnet masks according to network requirements- All the
computers and devices were assigned different IP addresses along with subnet masks to
reduce heavy data traffic, ensuring efficient segmentation and network expansion.
• Established LANS as well as Wireless routers- This enabled smartphone to be connected
through wireless networks.
• Established server room- Having the server room prevents system breakdown and allows
large volume of data to be shared across the departments. It also acts as a backup storage
of data and files.
• Each department contains only a minimal number of computers- This prevents crashing of
the computers and loss of huge amount of information and files if somehow the switch in
that department becomes non-functional.
• Establishing a fault tolerant network- As different switches has been configured for
different departments for load balancing.
• Security enhanced- Access Control List is maintained at Data Centre router to avoid access
to Data centre by external users
• Maintaining cost effectiveness. The overall cost of this type of enterprise networks are
approximately 3 lakhs taka. This includes cost of cables and other devices also. The
networks performance goal is very high compared to its cost.

Building the network:

Using Cisco packet tracer for building the enterprise network. The process for adding modules in
the packet tracer has been shown below in steps along with screenshots

12
• First open the Cisco packet trace and add the office structure map for better mapping.

• Then select any device (like: PC) from the selection box and place it in the logical area
section in every department by clicking the mouse. Add others PCs to other departments
also.

13
• Then add a switch in every room for connect all the PCs together

• After that choose a cable which is suitable for the devices, here we have used the lightening
cable which will automatically choose the cable which is the best for the devices. In the
beginning the connection lights are orange but it turns green gradually, which shows they
are connected.

14
• Then add three routers to connect all the switches together by the cable.

• Now the devices need to be configured by clicking on the device then going to desktop,
assigning IP addresses accordingly. Using the above steps, we can configure devices and

develop any kind of network. The development of our network also includes the following
steps:

15
a. Setup proper routing protocol (EIGRP) on routers.
b. Configured DHCP protocol on Head office, Data Centre routers for their respective
hosts’ configuration.
c. Configured the public internet routers and servers for providing the connection to
the ISP.
The table of IP address that were assigned to each of the devices are shown below

Devices and Department IP Address

PC0 (Programmers Department) 1.168.0.2
PC1 (Programmers Department) 1.168.0.3
PC2 (Sales Department) 128.168.0.2
PC3 (Sales Department) 128.168.0.3
PC4 (Accounting Department) 192.168.0.2
PC5 (Accounting Department) 192.168.0.3
PC8 (Manager Room) 126.168.1.2
PC6 (Technical Support Department) 191.168.1.2
PC7 (Technical Support Department) 191.168.1.2

16
• Then add a server to store and control all the PCs of the Organization.

The final network is shown in the screenshot below:

This is our final network of the organization. It consists of five departments- Programmers Department,
Sales Department, Accounting Department, Manager Room and Technical Support Department. All of
these departments get their access to internet connections from the ISP, which in turn gets its internet
connection from the public internet. Data and information can be freely transferred between these
departments in this enterprise.

17
Chapter 6

Network Testing
By Cisco Packet tracer we test our network by real time test mode. Here is a sample testing has been
shown below
