INSTRUCTION FOR INSTALLATION

1. SHIPMENT
The crane arrangement consist of:

Complete crane

• Spare parts
Runway beam

Before installation of the crane can be started, the runway arrangement has to be
completed according to dwg no C793. Special precautions should be taken to ensure
that the runway beam would be straight.

2. INSTALLATION OF CRANE ON RUNWAY

Remove the crane drive shaft w/pinion/bearing from the sideplate. The crane can
now be lifted onto the beam. Mount the shaft w/pinion and bearing.

Note: It is important to secure the crane to the runway until end stops are

• installed.

Check that the backlash between the pinion and rack is correct in the full length of
the runway beam.
General rule: The pinion should be in proper engagement, but check by hand that it
is free to move.

Connect the crane electrically to the power source on the ship.

Mount the limit switch actuators on the end of runway beam and adjust the limit
switches!

Check the following:

That the crane has the specified outreach.
That the limit switch actuators engage properly and actuate the limit switches.
That the switches stop the crane before it touches the travel end stops.
The top limit switches are only designed for emergency stop in top position and
should not be used frequently.

3. ADJUSTMENT OF THE OVERLOAD SWITCH

The overload switch is initially adjusted from the factory to SWL of ST.

Still it may be necessary to adjust the limit switches. If so, do the following:

Check the clearance between item 1 and the limit switch (see fig below) and adjust if
necessary (clearance setting 1-2mm).

If necessary adjust the bolt, item 2, (see fig below) until the limit switch is activated

Re-tighten the locknut

1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

• Prior to start up and operation of the crane, the following safety precautions have to
be adhered to:

Check that unauthorised personnel keep clear of the area before start up. This is also
valid during all crane operations.
Check the runway area for foreign objects, which can limit the crane's access.
Check the crane for visible damages.
Before taking the crane into use, make sure that the parking arrangement is unlocked.

2. CLEANING AND DRYING PRIOR TO START UP

All parts must be inspected and the required cleaning must be carried out.
Special attention must be paid to the electrical system.

If the heating elements have not been activated, electrical motors and panels must be
heated and dried before start up. The heating must be continued uninterrupted for 48
hrs. before the motors should be driven.

• 3. CRANE OPERATION

The crane is completely operated from a pendant control push button station.
All crane movement symbols are shown on the push button station.

STOP Push button for main power and emergency switch to the crane.
Main power on by turning and pull.
Main power off / emergency stop by push.

START Push button to start operation of the crane.

HOIST Port and starboard hoists controlled which side of the ship connects
you to.

• TRAVEL Port and starboard travel of the crane by two separate push buttons.

4. CRANE SHUT DOWN / RESTART

The provision crane should be shut down after use, only from the push button station
by pushing the STOP button. This is to ensure operation of the heating elements in
the motors and in the electrical panel.
Failure to shut down, or by disconnecting the power to the crane supplied from ship,
the cleaning and drying procedure prior to start up must be repeated to ensure dried
conditions. Restart the crane by turning / pulling the STOP button.

When the crane is parked the power to the crane must remain connected to ensure
heating of the panel and motors.

5. CONSEQUENCES OF MISUSE

It is of great importance that the crane is operated in accordance with the operating
procedure.

Any misuse may cause damages, and will always be a hazard to personnel safety!!

6. DO AND DON'TS FOR SAFE OPERAnON

While operating the crane you should do:

• • Isolate power supply and remove fuses before maintenance work is carried out
on the crane or runway.
.. Clean the trolley deck regularly.
• Secure all panel doors, covers etc. after maintenance work.
o Check limit switch action periodically.
o Lubricate regularly.
o Operate the crane within the designed duty class.

• While operating the crane, what should NOT be done:

• Exceed safe working load for the crane

•
• Attempt to use both winches at the same time
• Use the limit switches as normal working limit switches

• Lift loads at an angle, or try to pull loads sideways. This will cause additional
wear to the wire rope
• Leave hook at head height
• Let the lower block lie on the ground causing the hoist rope to become loose
on the drum. The wire rope may then jump off the sheave and be damaged
• Leave tools or parts on the girder or hoist after maintenance
• Inch the crane, as this will shorten motor life and cause excessive wear on the
brakes. Always try to keep all motor starts at a minimum

•
• Transport load over the head of workmen
• Attempt to carry out maintenance work on the crane while the power supply is
on.
• Have a load suspended in mid-air unattended
• Use hoisting machinery to free stuck loads

EMERGENCY OPERATION
1. EMERGENCY LOWERING OF LOAD

Clear the area for unauthorised personnel

Make sure that the power is off. Locate the "Manual Break Release" on the hoisting
motor holding the load. (The break release is shown on the spare part drawing for the

motor)
Release the break carefully until the load is moving
Turn the break release clockwise in order to release the break
To stop movement turn the break release anticlockwise

WARNING: Lower the load SLOWLY.

Otherwise the load can start to fall BEYOND CONTROL.

When the load has been put safely to the ground, be sure to ENGAGE THE BREAK
again. (Turn the break release anticlockwise).

If the crane is free to move it is OUT OF CONTROL.
