Structural Geometry 4

(Truss)

SPAN: Every Span and length covered = 14.0 m

PROPERTY:
Top Cord 2 – 4” x 3” x 1/4”
Bottom Cord 2 – 4” x 3” x 1/4”
King Post 2 – 4” x 3” x 1/4”
Member 2 – 4” x 3” x 1/4”
Beta Angle All Bottom cord 180⁰
Spec All members are truss
Support Pinned

Procedure  Select Open Structure Wizard


 Click Finish
 Open Staad Pro.
 Select New Project
 Input File Name
 Set File Location
 Select Space
 Select Units: Meter & Kilo Newton
 Click Next
 Select and double click Howe Roof
 Input the designed measurements of the
truss
 On No. of bays along length, click the box

 Click Front View


 Input the designed measurements of the
bays along length respectively
 Click OK  Click Add Beam

 Click on Node then click on the Beam


 Click Add Midpoint
 Click OK

 You should have this truss design


 Repeat process until the desired design of
truss is complete

 Click File  You should now have the completed design


 Select Merge Model w/STAAD.Pro Model of truss

 Click Property
 Click Section Database

 Click Yes
 Click OK

 Select Angle
 Click View Table

 Select Beam Cursor


 Find and select the required property  Click the first property
 Highlight all the Top cord, Bottom cord, and
King cord (since they all have the same
property)
 Click Assign

 Click the Angle L40304


 Click Add

 Click the second property


 Highlight all the members of the truss
 Click Assign
 Click View Table again
 Find and select the other required property

 Click the Angle L20204


 Click Add
 Close
 Click Beta Angle
 Click Create
 Input required angle: 180⁰
 Click OK

 Select Member Truss


 Highlight all the Members
 Click Assign

 Click Beta 180


 Highlight Bottom Cord
 Click Assign

 Click Support
 Click Create
 Click Spec
 Click Beam

 Select Pinned
 Click Add

 Select Truss
 Click Add
 Select Support 2
 Click Assign
 Click the node where the support is required

 Finish
