This document contains a student's responses to questions about Just-In-Time (JIT) concepts. It provides examples of how JIT can be applied to services like banking and restaurants. It also explains how using JIT principles can make an individual's life more efficient by eliminating waste and helping prioritize tasks. Finally, it presents a word problem asking how many kanbans are needed for a pen packaging process and shows the mathematical steps to determine the answer is 2.8 kanbans.

ACTIVITY – JUST IN TIME:

1. Find examples of JIT in services. Which aspects of JIT are

easiest to apply in services?
-As an accounting student I think one of the best example of JIT in
service is a bank, a bank can be considered as a paper or information
factory that converts document or data into useful information like
bills, certificates, passbooks, checks etc. With this, the bank can
benefit from techniques like efficient layouts, capacity planning, line
balancing, inventory control, quality control and job sequencing.
Banks can use JIT to eliminate tons of unnecessary files, forms,
supplies and filing cabinets.
Another example are Restaurants, McDonalds, Jollibee, Domino's
Pizza, Greenwich etc. who compete on speed and still provide their
products and services at low cost and with increasing variety. Work
cells at fast-food restaurants that allow workers to be added during
peak times and reduced during slow times.

2. Explain how you could use JIT to make your life more efficient.
-Just-in-time concept is helpful for us to balance everything and not to
waste time, things, labor etc. It can make our life efficient simply
because it is eliminating waste materials, it will lead us to being more
responsible in dealing with the things that we must prioritize so that
we won't waste our energy and other efforts on the things that we
don't need. This concept is teaching us in having a good use of time.

3. Problem: Suzie Sizewick works for a manufacturer of ballpoint

pens, which come in packages of five pens each. Her job is to fill
the packages with pens, and she is expected to process 100
packages an hour. The facility where Suzie works uses a Kanban
production system in which each container holds ten pen
packages. It takes 15 minutes to receive the packages she needs
from the previous workstation. The facility uses a safety stock of
12 percent. How many kanbans are needed for the filling
process?

Solution:
per hour

our

ges per container

1
100 ×
4)=3 packages

ages per hour ) ( 14 hour)+3 =2.8 kanbans∧packages

10 packages

Answer:
2.8 kanbans are needed for the filling process
