Axolotl Care: Size, Lifespan, and Diet

Axolotls are also known as Mexican walking fish. They can grow between 6 to 18 inches long and live 10 to 20 years. They should be kept in at least a 15 to 20 gallon tank. In the wild, axolotls eat snails, worms, crustaceans, small fish and amphibians, but can be fed brine shrimp, beef or liver in captivity, as well as pellets purchased from the University of Kentucky Ambystoma Genetic Stock Center where they breed axolotls.
