Introduction Over one million people worldwide die from
mosquito-borne diseases every year.
Mosquitoes carries diseases such as malaria,
yellow fever, chikungunya, zika virus and the
most common one is the dengue fever which is
experienced by a lot of people (Heriman, 2015).
Everybody can purchase commercial mosquito
repellent to keep mosquitoes away. However,
one may contain substances that can harm also
humans (Shukla, Wijayapala & Vankar, 2018).
Statement of the Problem The goal of the researchers is to produce an
alternative mosquito repellent from calamansi
peel and soybean oil
Objective of the Study This study aims to determine whether there is a
significant difference between the calamansi
peel and soybean oil compare to OFF lotion
Scope and Limitation of the Study: The study focused on the determination of the
effectiveness of calamansi peel and soybean oil
mixture as mosquito repellent. Given are the lack
of instruments to be used by the researcher and
the difficulties of the methods that will be
performed. These limitations will be solve at the
Chemical Laboratory of Laguna Senior High
School and by seeking help from the University
of The Philippines, Los Baños.
Review Literatures and System The citrus peel oils show strong antimicrobial
activity, because of having the phytochemical
that can repel mosquitoes (Saramanda and
Kaparapu (2017). Soybean oil has phytotoxic
effects make it somewhat effective as a pesticide
(Baker, Grant & Malakar-Kuenen 2016).Some
mosquito repellent have toxic effect due to the
fact that some might carry skin diseases
(Ranasinghe, Arambewela, & Samarasinghe,
2018).
