55-Year-Old Teacher Gives Up
Profession Creates Loud Buzz
Online
Mrs. Melita Limjuco 55 years old teacher who served in public school for 29
years is featured on broadcaster Raffy Tulfo’s television show after a
student’s relatives complained of alleged child abuse. It is said in the news
that the grandmother of the child sought Tulfo’s help to file a case against
Limjuco to “teach her a lesson.” This was after the teacher was seen on
CCTV footage sending a boy out of a classroom. The child’s family claimed
the boy “was traumatized” and “humiliated” because of the teacher’s action.

According to investigation the story goes like this it all started in a report
card of the grade 2 student that forgotten in the house which is needed to
pass that day, and also added to her anger is the there is a quarrel between
the grade 2 student and his seatmate. They try to reach out the teacher by
trying to call the school where she is teaching but the school said that the
teacher is absent in that day. But the teacher has already apologize to the
parents of the student and admitted the wrong disciplinary that she act that
caused to the grade 2 student traumatized and being abused, but the family
of the student doesn’t want a public apology they want the teacher to be
penalty, the teacher was given two options to choose from: face criminal
charges such as child abuse or concede and give up her license and
profession.

Meanwhile, lawyer and education advocate Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada offer
Mrs. Limjuco a help, he said to the public to hear the side of the teacher, he
also added “I do not see any abuse done by the teacher, The disciplinary
action imposed by the teacher is the necessary consequence of the child’s
misconduct,”

The result of the “trial”, however, did not suit the taste of the viewers as it
wasn’t rightful for someone to tell a teacher to resign from the post just
because of doing something unintentional and for blowing out of proportion.
This has created loud buzz online for it must undergo due process before
someone gets to be kicked out from the service. With this, Raffy Tulfo spoke
and listen to the netizens. He understood the sentiments from the various
social media platform as he himself also received disciplinary action when he
was a child from a teacher. He withdraws from his decision of taking the
issue to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) where he tends to
push through the cancellation of the license of the teacher. However, he
believes that the teachers still need to face other penalties

In the end “DepEd shall take care and protect both the learner and teacher
through due process which is already existing at all levels of governance,”
the department said. “Rest assured that this case is being handled by DepEd
regional and division offices already through proper procedures according to
applicable laws and policies (such as Child Protection Law and Magna Carta
of Teachers).” DepEd also asked netizens to stop spread photos and footage
of the family, the student, and the teacher as doing so will have a “further
impact on them and their families.”
