Benefits and Drawbacks of the Keto Diet
Everyone is talking about the Keto Diet. This diet is a diet where a person who tries to eat for fatty meats and things in that category. Even though some think this diet will be easier and funnier than just eating healthy foods that might not
taste good, it does have benefits and drawbacks to it. The keto diet is a low protein diet that can cause people to have chronic kidney disease. Even though others or researchers say that a dietary interventions and low protein diets may play a role at different
levels, such as treating obesity, correcting hypophosphatasemia, avoiding processed foods, and reducing the workload on the remnant nephrons. A low protein diet can however still be underutilized. There are a lot of drawbacks and dangers of the keto diet.
Researchers say it cause the “keto flu”. The keto flu is symptoms a person will have after two or seven days of starting the diet. The symptoms start with headache, foggy pain, fatigue, irritability, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and constipation.
Reporters say that someone had done the keto diet and they ran test that highly effective at attenuating seizures. When they tested the person that had been on the keto diet, they tested the person's body weight, ketone, and glucose levels.
After the test results they said that the keto diet can cause seizures in males and not females depending on the persons age. Also, “recent research published by The Lancet found that restricting carbs and replacing them with animal-based protein and fat could
lead to a shorter lifespan. Janella Chin, DO”
The keto diet can also attenuate proliferation and stemness of the stem-like cells by altering metabolism. Researchers say that the keto diet consist of high fat foods and appropriate proteins with only minimal carbohydrate intake. This leads
to physiological ketosis by lowering blood glucose levels and increasing the levels of blood and ketone bodies. Studies say the keto diet exhibits promising anti-tumor effects against GBM due to its induction of physiological ketosis. Another bad or drawback
to the keto diet is that “the downside of the ketogenic diet is that there is no well-established evidence to support its sustainability on a long-term basis. Janella Chin DO”
There are a lot of drawbacks of the keto diet, some are nutrient deficiencies, adherence, and gut health. When it comes to nutrient deficiencies if the diet is not followed correctly or without proper guidance it can cause nutrient deficiencies. Adherence is when
a person eating very high-fat diet just get keep eating the way the keto diet is supposed to work because they are not satisfied. Lastly, Gut health, when using the keto diet, it may become difficult to some to use the restroom because sometimes it is difficult to
remove whole grain and fruit.
Now it is time to talk about the benefits of the keto diet. The keto diet has benefits like how it can treat epilepsy. The keto diet has been used to epilepsy since the 1920s. “Janella Chin, DO” The keto diet is also used widely pediatric
hospitals. People all over the world use the keto diet because it may treat obesity and diabetes. Weight loss is the biggest usage for the keto diet. Studies say that it is more effective and some just favor low fat eating.
The next benefit of the keto diet is that people can binge eat. The keto diet can help people with binge eating and food addictions. Studies demonstrate the ketonic induced appetite suppression and enhanced satiety provide a theoretical basis for individuals
using the keto diet. Studies show that people that like to binge eat and start the keto diet and they can binge eat all they want and still loss weight at the same time. As a person that has the done diet, it does not help you with your binge eating but everyone is
different.
There are many benefits to the keto diet and another benefit is that studies have proven that the diet effect people’s mood and energy. They did studies on people on how they acted before the keto diet and then two weeks after starting the
keto diet. The people gave feedback after two weeks and it gave people more energy and increased the physical activity when they ate using the keto diet. Studies prove that the keto diet can be beneficial to people when it comes to energy and physical activity.
But you can also find better and healthy diets that can help with your energy and mood.
There are many benefits to the keto diet, but the mean benefits are, Epilepsy, weight loss, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. The keto diet can help with all these things. It helps with epilepsy because the keto diet was first used to clinically treat
seizures. It main use is to lose weight. When using this diet there are great metabolic changes initially. In a article named Antonio Paoli it states that the health parameters associated with carrying excess weight improve, insulin resistance, high blood pressure,
and elevated cholesterol. This diet helps with type 2 diabetes by eating carbs which can have a direct impact on glucose concentrations and lowering it over time. This diet can help someone get their diabetes under control. The other thing that the keto diet
helps with is cancer. The keto diet has a Warburg effect which has established that tumor cells can break down glucose faster compared to normal cells. The keto starves the tumor cells of glucose, and that helps stop the growth and help prevent cancer. The
keto diet has been proven to help with type 2 diabetes, but most don’t follow the diet correctly and could just make you stay the same without helping you.
Some more facts about the keto diet is that this diet is a low-carb diet that puts your body into a metabolic process called ketosis. While using this diet your body gets energy from burning fats instead of burning carbohydrates. “During
ketosis, stored fats and proteins are burned off in order to create ketone bodies, or ketones, which generate energy and when the body burns off fat and protein you lose weight, Amy Ramos”. Also, while keeping your insulin levels down it also means that you
will have less ups and downs in your blood-glucose levels to cope with. When this happens, you will be surprised by how much more energy you will have throughout the day. When you cut out high-carb and high sodium foods, the keto diet works y replying
on healthy fats and proteins.
To finish my argument speech, the keto diet is a very different diet. Most think of a diet as eating healthy and I know you are probably thinking “how is eating meat and fat a good healthy diet”. Well it is not a good healthy diet; it may help
with people with epilepsy or diabetes but for a normal person it is not good for you because of all the fat and meat you are used to eat. A lot of people have healthy problems other than diabetes or epilepsy; you could have liver problems that by eating a lot of
meat can cause your liver to become a fatty liver. If you can looking for a good healthy diet I would not choose the keto diet unless you have no health problems.
