Preface

As the coffin sat on top of the earth for the final time, Jenna dropped her white flowers into the

casket and thought about the memories she had shared with her dear mother. All those memories.

Jenna remembered when earlier this year her mother had been shopping for dresses for the

formal coming up at the end of the year. She had been so excited. Jenna didn’t want to go to the

formal anymore. It was their thing, and it just didn’t feel right without her there.

Jenna had loved her mother dearly.

Jenna and her father stood in the sun until everyone had said their respects and left. He stayed

silent through the whole thing. That was Jenna’s dad. Strong and silent. He didn’t even show any

emotion, while Jenna had puffy eyes from crying.

“I’m going to the pub,” He said; his husky voice low and blank before he turned around and

silently made his way to his car.

Jenna knew that he didn’t want her there with him. She had to walk home.

Bending down, she put her fingertips to her lips and then put her fingertips to the gravestone that

had her mother’s name engraved on it.

“I love you, mum,”

She turned around and made her legs walk. She could imagine her mum; still see her beautiful

curly brown hair, her creamy orange dress that she loved so much. Jenna looked around the

woods surrounding the cemetery, imagining her next to one of the trees on the other side of the

cemetery, but the image was different from what Jenna wanted to imagine. She was with a man;

a man dressed in a suit with his arms wrapped around her, offering support. Jenna shook her

head, but the image didn’t go away. She crept closer, but the image seemed to step back with her,

going deeper and deeper into the brush.

“Mum,” Jenna whispered and reached a hand out to the image they kept disappearing from her.

The woman blew a kiss, and then disappeared from sight.

Chapter one

several years later

“Thank you, miss, have a great night. Here is your change,” Jenna received her change from the

lady at the cash register with a smile and made her way outside. Like most nights lately she went

out to the diner up the street from her house and had dinner by herself. Her dad always went out

during the day and somehow there was never any food in the house any more. No matter how

many times she filled it.

Jenna knew what the problem was. Of course she knew. A big blonde, big breasted problem.

Since her dad had gotten a new girlfriend, he had always been out and was hardly ever home.

After Jenna’s mum had died, her and her dad didn’t bond anymore. They were family, but after

her mum had died they didn’t act like one anymore.

Jenna hugged her jacket tighter as she stepped outside into the cold wind that splashed her face.
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 8

She took her time eating her dinner tonight. She wasn’t sure why, but it somehow felt right. She

wasn’t much into fate, or destiny, but she thought it seemed right to spend longer at the diner.

There wasn’t anyone around, and the only real reason she left was because they had to close for

the night. Looking around, she couldn’t see anyone else but her on the streets. She crossed the

road so that she could follow the street lamps home, and stuffed her hands in her pockets to keep

them warm.

Already half way home, Jenna wasn’t surprised when the street lamps got further and further

apart until they became nearly three hundred meters apart. It was a strange how they kept getting

further and further away from each other even though there were still shops around. It had been

like that before Jenna had moved here and it didn’t bother her that much.

Her friends used to tell her that if walked through the streets at night you could hear ghosts or

some creatures howling or screaming in the science. She used to laugh at them and tell them they

were stupid to think she would believe it.

Jenna stopped, remembering.

Only she knew she didn’t imagine it that time.

It was only for a split second, but she couldn’t have imagined it. Jenna listened for it again, but

silent greeted her.

Jenna didn’t give up that easily.

She was always considered a stubborn girl. Jenna could admit it sometimes, but her gut instincts

were more than likely correct.

Most of the time.

Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 9

So as she crept towards the way where she heard the scream, she wondered if she really knew

what she was doing. She was always the do-before-thinking kind of person, and once she saw a

glimpse of where the sound came from, she knew this was another time.

She hid behind one of the garbage bins as she tried to make out the three dark shadows that

seemed to look like towering male structures.

“That wasn’t very nice, now was it?” She heard a deep growl that resembled what Jenna thought

to be some type of dog followed by a female whimper.

“I think she actually drew some blood,” Jenna heard another say and a very deep laugh.

Disgust rolled off of her as she thought what she knew was going to happen. She knew she had

gone too far this time. She should have just ignored it and walked away. But now she couldn’t

move because she’d get caught. There was nowhere to go.

Jenna put her head against the garbage bin that was between her and the criminals and prayed

that this would end out okay. Maybe if she just ran for it, they wouldn’t be bothered to chase

after her.

Jenna looked back and squinted as hard as she could to make out the shadows that were closer

together now, hearing little whimpers every now and again.

Thinking that she’d call the police while she ran, and that this was her chance while they were

distracted, she turned around.

And smacked into a wall.

A warm hard wall.

Jenna looked up at the dark shadow that loomed above her and gasped as the only thing she

could tell about the male was his gleaming white teeth. She stumbled backwards but he seemed
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 10

to keep the distance and grabbed her throat, causing a feminine gasp to escape her mouth. Jenna

was pushed against the wall behind her with the hand on her throat, but she noticed that the hand

was soft and gentle against her skin.

“Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s not good to spy on people, little one?” The male’s voice

was soft and arrogant, and the thumb that was on her throat starting moving up and down her

jugular.

Jenna stiffened under his hand and tried to look a different way, not giving the criminal the

satisfaction.

“Now, now, don’t be shy, you’re beautiful,” Despite where she was and the situation she was in,

she blushed at the gentle compliment.

“We’ve a got a beauty here, brothers,” Jenna knew she was going mad; how could she blush at

this stranger who was going to do who knows what to her. She’d lost it. Completely.

“What’s her name?” Jenna heard another say.

“Genevieve,” Light from a passing car shown on his face, and Jenna’s eyes widened at the

beauty of the man who was holding onto her neck.

Jenna screamed, but only until the hansom gentleman brought his lips to hers. Her eyes widened

even more, and then closed unconsciously to the feel of him. Jenna didn’t realize that he had said

her name without her telling him, or that he had taken her further into the alley.

“That wasn’t very nice, Jenna. Someone could have heard you,” He leaned back and had that

arrogant grin on his face again.

“Please,” Jenna whispered as she felt the other dark shadows come closer.

“Begging already? You’re good Nathan,” One said and the one who held her neck leaned in
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 11

closer, Jenna seeing that arrogant smile, and then stepped to the side letting her neck go. Jenna

tried not to notice to cold that movement brought to her neck.

She looked around, but all she could make out was blackness or dark shapes that resembled

crates. She didn’t realize that she’d been brought so far into the side street.

“Oh, let me go first,” The one that was slightly taller than all three of them said, itching forward

and putting his hand on her waist, heading upwards. “She smells divine,”

“Selfish bastard,” the one with the deepest voice muttered, but stepped back.

Fear set in for once in Jenna’s life, and she unconsciously leaned back and wished she could sink

into the wall and fade away instead of dealing with what was now stroking her cheek.

“Absolutely divine,” He leaned in, almost nose to nose with her, met her in the eye and almost

instantly she felt herself tire out. Her heart slowed to a beat bordering unconsciousness, and she

felt his head lower down towards her neck while one hand went to her waist, and the other held

Jenna’s head that had lolled to the side.

“Pl…” Please… Jenna’s mouth felt slack, and she couldn’t finish the word that was mumbled

from her lips.

She only felt lips pressed against her neck once, before Jenna was overwhelmed with pleasure as

his teeth sunk into her. She could feel her heart pick up, and literally felt her blood rush to her

neck, giving him more sustenance as he drank.

Nathan watched as one of his older brothers satisfied himself on the nosy being that happened to

be spying on them. He heard her as soon as she entered the side street, and took it in himself to

greet her first.

Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 12

He studied her glazed over expression, and his brother, Stephan as he worked his mouth over the

tender spot at her delicate neck. His fangs probed his mouth, waiting to elongate, but he held

back; he had to give his brother a fair go. But as Nathan thought about it, just the subtle

movement his brother made, made him want to rip him off her and claim her himself.

Whoa… he didn’t mean that. He really didn’t mean that. He didn’t even know where the thought

came from.

Nathan shook his head, and then rubbed his face to regain his composure.

“You alright?” Nathan’s oldest brother Sebastian asked.

Nathan looked over at him and realized his brother studied him and was concerned. “Yeah, fine.

Hungry, though,”

“Aren’t we all?” He said and his fangs gleamed off the lamp that sat on the curb of the street.

A whimper that slowly turned into a moan of displeasure brought Nathan’s head up as Stephan

released her neck and she swayed slightly, even in Stephan’s grip. Her eyes were closed, lips

slightly parted and a slight blush starting to rise in her juicy cheeks.

“Sorry, eldest go next,” Sebastian said with arrogance and took Stephan’s place, holding her up

for him.

Sebastian took half the time as Stephan did because he wasn’t greedy. He had a beautiful mate at

home, and had already fed before coming out tonight. Nathan knew the reason Sebastian had

come was to make sure they behaved themselves and to celebrate their ‘moving in’ to the new

town.

“All yours,” His brother said and waited until Nathan was close enough to drop his hands and let

the girl go.

Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 13

She tasted so sweet his fangs tingled and he shuddered against her. Nathan had never tasted

anything that good before. Despite the raging hunger that his body was telling him, he knew he

had to not go too far. He wouldn’t be able stop soon, and just from a brief look in her mind,

Nathan knew this fragile human meant a lot to a lot of people around town. And it definitely

wouldn’t be a good idea to finish her off and leave everyone guessing as where she had

disappeared to.

More than a little angry at his own weakness, Nathan released the girl’s neck and let her crumple

to the floor, landing on her side, eyes still partially closed.

“Little rough there, brother,” Stephan said and inclined his head to Genevieve who whimpered in

protest at being on the floor. “But she did taste a bit on the sour side,”

Nathan wanted to ring his brother until his head snapped off. And he showed it in his growl of

disapproval.

“You know where to take her home?” His older brother asked and Nathan huffed. Of course he

knew where she lived. But that wasn’t the question his brother had asked him. The question was

whether he was going to take her there.

“Fine,” Nathan said grumpily and went to the big oversized crate that she had tried to conceal

herself in. Bending down to retrieve the tiny electronic device that was her phone, her sweet

aroma filled his nostrils and he had to close his eyes from the attack against his senses.

He bent down in front of the girl when he reached her and watched as she slowly lifted her eyes

to his, her hand loosely holding onto her red soaked neck.

With a sigh of frustration, he lifted her with the ease of lifting a small child and made sure she

hadn’t left anything behind before running her back to her home. He could rely on his brothers to
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 14

make sure he hadn’t left anything behind if he had, which he hadn’t.

It only took him several minutes to get to her home, and even then, he was going slowly. Nathan

was a fast runner. A very fast runner. He could normally run faster than all his family. Well,

except his uncle Paul, but he was good at everything. Nathan didn’t count him, because no one

beat his uncle at anything.

“Nice house, Jenna,” Nathan said quietly, unconsciously stroking her cold hair until he realized

what he was doing and stopped himself. He found the reactions she was bringing out in him

strange and he didn’t know what they meant, nor did he think he wanted to know.

Unlocking the doors with his mind, he made his way to the closed door that had her name

scribbled on it and used his back to open it.

It was an ordinary room, close to what Nathan’s sister’s looked like, except very empty.

Thinking about it looked too empty. She didn’t have many posters, only a couple of pictures of

what Nathan thought were her friends, and one picture of her and another woman. Nathan knew

just from looking at the resemblance that they were mother and daughter or siblings, but Nathan

doubted that idea.

Without noticing, Nathan’s grip loosened, and the fragile human slid down the length of his body

onto the floor. She seemed to melt away and pool at the floor, letting out a little groan. He looked

down at her loose head that was leaning all its weight on his thigh and realized that her breathing

was shallow.

“I’m going to have to do this all by myself, too,” Nathan muttered to himself, as he bent again

and carried her to the blue bed, letting her sink into covers.

He positioned himself behind her so that she leaned herself against him, and then before bringing
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 15

his wrist to her mouth, he bit it and made blood start to swell. There was really no pain involved,

only a slight flinching feeling that seemed to overcome Nathan, no matter how many times he

tried to calm himself.

At first the little vulnerable human whimpered and moved her mouth away, but Nathan growled

impatiently and pushed his wrist back in his place while holding her more securely.

“Drink,” he commanded softly but firmly and then when she refused again, he pinched her nose

that made her gasp. He knew as soon as his blood had touched her tongue because her body

jerked, and then she started to suck greedily at his open wrist. Nathan leaned his head back

against the head board and kept his mind occupied from the little thing at his wrist.

Of course, Nathan knew that Jenna was his responsibility from now on. His brothers probably set

it up too, but Nathan would deal with that later. He needed to figure what to do with his new

problem.

“What to do…what to do,” he murmured to himself.

Jenna whimpered softly and started to slow, and unconsciously Nathan put his hand on top of her

head to keep it in place, while she finished.

Many miles away, on the other side of town, the leader of the werewolf clan was bent over a map

when one of his lieutenants ran in, waving photos around at everyone in the room. The other

members of the clan stopped what they were doing and came closer, wondering what was wrong.

“They’ve been spotted, they’ve have been spotted!” He ran to his leader, and handed him the

photos, along with a map with a red spot, marking a location.

Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 16

“Impossible,” The leader whispered, almost to himself. He had been trying to track them all his

life, taking over from his father, and his father before that.

“Just on the other side of town, sir,” The lieutenant pointed on the map to prove his point.

“Why would they show themselves? After all this time?” A man who was in charge of weapons

asked, almost not believing the lieutenant. It wasn’t common that someone would try and make

something up like that.

“My source said that it was a celebration meal for buying a new town house somewhere in the

city.”

The leader, contemplating everything, put his hand on his chin, and then narrowed his eyes at

one of the pictures.

“Who is the woman?”

“One of their snacks. Our research team is trying to get a name, but its taking some time.”

The leader nodded. “Everything from now on stops.” He looked around and held up the photos in

his hand. “This is our number one priority. We’ve spent too long waiting for them to make an

appearance, and we’re not going to let them get away. Find out anything you can. Where they’re

living, etc.” He then looked at his lieutenant. “And do anything you can to make our researchers

work harder. This woman might remember something.”

As everyone started to get to work in a hurry, the leader of the werewolf clan sat in his chair and

thought about how he was not going to let his ancestors down again.

Chapter 2

Nathan walked through the hallways of the place he had now called home for the past 133 years

nodding to some of the guards he passed and headed to the big wooden doors that held the

lounge where his family sat on chairs around the gold plated fire place. His brothers were already

there looking at home, Stephan standing and leaning against the fire place, Sebastian sitting with

his bonded mate Marissa cuddled up to him.

“My son,” His father, king Dante said with affection, even though his face didn’t show much

emotion.

“Father,” Nathan bowed his head and knelt in front of both his mother and father. “Forgive my

lateness,”
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 18

His father leant out of his chair and put his hand on his son’s shoulder, while his mother said,

“Of course, my dear, your brothers had informed us already,” Nathan nodded at them and then

stood up, glancing a thanks at both of his brothers.

“Brother,” Stephan held out a glass that was his own mixture of whiskey and blood. Nathan

went to his brother and it took it hesitantly, keeping his stare on his older brother.

A sudden look of amusement, mixed with annoyance overtook Stephan’s face as Nathan sniffed

the drink before taking a small sip to test if it was clean.

“I wouldn’t do it to you again, Nath,” Stephan said, but Nathan just narrowed his eyes. Last time

Nathan got Stephan to make him a drink; he had put salt and spices into it that had Nathan in the

kingdoms clinic for two days getting it washed from his system.

“Nathan, we were just informing your siblings that the family will be over hopefully next month

or sooner if things go well for a few days.” Nathan nodded, even though Dante had caught the

wince when he had heard the news.

“The little ones will be staying on 7a, a level below Sebastian and Marissa.” When Marissa

nodded, and Sebastian just shrugs, he continued. “We all decided that it would safer close to

Sebastian and Marissa, and that it is nowhere near the front entrance. When the rest of the family

arrives, they can choose where they would like stay for a couple of days.”

“Yes, father,” The four of them said in unison.

“I do hope you were careful tonight,” His mother said seriously, looking over at her sons, finally

resting on the oldest Sebastian, who had promised that they would behave and stay out of sight.

“We not only need to be careful of the were community, but the human community too. The

press doesn’t need to know that you will be going to school at May brook,”
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 19

Nathan and his brothers knew his mother was right. There was the threat of the weres, but they

had to keep as much away from the human population as well, especially the press. Nathan’s

family was famous, being the number one richest family in the world, both in human and

vampire worlds, the press flourishes at the sight of them. It wasn’t just being rich; Dante was in

charge of nearly every real estate company in the country as well as looking after the country for

the vampire world. Of course, Nathan’s extended family was just as rich, living in different

countries to help battle all the dangers that threatened their race. Just in Nathan’s kingdom alone,

they had forty-five hundred guards, over 60 hectares of land. Of course, the only way you could

get there is if you had a portal key, and the kings permission to enter, otherwise, you wouldn’t be

allowed in. everyone in the family had one, a special small object that is kept on them at all times

to help them get to where they want to go in seconds. Nathan’s was a ring that he wore, the

family emblem imprinted on the band.

Nathan didn’t know why they were being forced to go to school either; I mean, in his vampire

years, he should be the same age as the teenagers in the human high school, but that didn’t mean

that he had to socialize with them.

They were humans for Christ sakes.

“Yes mother, we behaved ourselves,” Stephan said to his mother and took another sip of his

whiskey.

“Good,” She said with a nod.

You did make her forget, didn’t you, Nathan? Stephan’s voice entered his mind and he looked

over at his brother. His brother must have known that he had opened his mind enough to let his

voice through.
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 20

Nathan stiffened.

Did he make her forget? He relayed the events of the night in his head, trying to find the key

event that would make him say yes.

You idiotic piece of shit, Stephan growled when Nathan didn’t say anything.

She won’t believe herself that tonight happened, she’ll think she’s crazy, Nathan answered back

quietly, hoping that he would be right.

you better hope she does, Nathan, because you’re going to have to deal with Mum, not us,

Sebastian said and Nathan made a slight inclination of his head, secretly nodding his head to his

older brothers.

“I think Marissa and I will retire for tonight,” Sebastian said and patted his mate’s thigh,

indicating for her to let him up. “What time does school start?”

“8:45” Her mother said sweetly, before both Nathan’s brother and his mate kissed went to them

and gave them kisses goodnight.

“Rhage,” Sebastian said, putting his hand around Marissa and started for the door.

“Yes, my lord,” Sebastian’s personal guard said in a humble tone, suddenly making himself

known from the wall he had been leaning against.

“I want you to have to the night off tonight, and probably tomorrow as well,” Sebastian said,

making Rhage nod at him, even though Nathan saw that the guard didn’t like the plan. All the

guards seemed to like being guards and protecting the royal family, which Nathan thought was a

bit crazy. Rhage had been Sebastian’s guard for fifty years now, and they had grown to be good

friends. Such good friends that Nathan had even caught Rhage arguing with Sebastian, which

was rare.

Chapter 3

The next morning, Jenna awoke with a headache. She groaned as she sat up from under the

covers of her bed, and then looked around, confused. She was still in her clothes from the night

before, but as a sudden headache hit her, Jenna couldn’t remember how she got home. She must

have been really tired.

Looking at how late she had woken up, she ran to the shower, and probably had the quickest

shower she had ever had in her life.

Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 22

Going down stairs, Jenna found her dad smashing the coffee pot against the table, muttering and

cursing to himself.

“Here, let me,” Jenna said quietly, and reached for the pot, but her dad snatched it and threw it in

the sink. “I’m not thirsty anyway,” he said angrily and grabbed a piece of bread that he had been

buttering.

Jenna grabbed some cereal and sat at the table, knowing that he was in a mood and probably

hung over. She knew not to say anything so he wouldn’t get angry.

Half way through her breakfast, Jenna’s dad cursed again out loud, and grabbed his keys. “Me

and Lacey are going out tonight, don’t wait up,”

“Wasn’t going to,” Jenna muttered before she could stop herself, but her father didn’t even hear

her. At first she waited for him, but he stayed for several nights and left her by herself. Now, she

didn’t even care whether he came home or not.

As Jenna walked to school like she normally did, she felt charged. She felt she had such power in

her bones that she actually felt like running to school. No, she wouldn’t stop at school, she’d go

run a marathon she felt so good.

School was like it normally was, dull. Jenna didn’t mind school, but it did become quite dull at

times. Familiar faces, familiar surroundings, after a while everything started to merge and

became repetitive.

Passing everyone that gave her a big smile and a wave, Jenna pasted a smile on her face and

nodded in greeting. She had a small school, and everyone knew everyone. Sometimes, Jenna

loved it because she was liked by a lot of people, but other times, like now, she just didn’t want

to be known. She didn’t know why, but she felt like she had changed somehow, and everyone
Author’s Last Name / 1-2 Words from Title / 23

was looking at her strangely. Like she should be somewhere else.

“Jenna,” A very familiar voice called her from behind and she turned to see her best friend with

an annoyed look on her face. “You were supposed to call me on Saturday.”

Jenna winced a little for forgetting. “Sorry, Katie. I was so busy this weekend, time just flied,”

Katie just huffed and through her arms up in the air. “I had to spend all day,” She held her hand

up to stop Jenna from talking. “And night babysitting Lily. All by myself, I might add. She

wouldn’t sleep!” Jenna just laughed. She couldn’t help it. Katie wasn’t good with kids. Any kids.

She would normally call Jenna for assistance, and then everything would be sorted out.

“Ladies,” Katie’s boyfriend Leah came behind Katie and wrapped his arms around her waist,

giving her a kiss on her shoulder.

“Hey, Leah,” Jenna started to say, but she got cut off when she was grabbed from behind and

hauled over someone’s shoulder. She screamed, as she was flung over and her eyes were

suddenly focusing on the ground beneath her, but she stopped when she saw familiar white and

green shoes.

“Tom, put me down!” Jenna said and huffed when she started vibrating on his shoulder from his

laughter.

“Calm down, babe,” He said and put her back on her feet. Jenna put her hands on her hips as he

grinned at her and held out his arms. “Come on,” He dragged out the words, and pretended to

look sad.

“Oh, fine,” She went into his arms and he tightened them around her.

“Hey,” he said and kissed her.

This was probably the best bit of school, thought Jenna as she kissed her boyfriend back just as

the bell goes for class.

“Do we have a class together?” He asked, but Jenna shook her head smiling, causing him to

groan.

“Come on, buddy,” Leah said patting him on the back and led him away with a wink. “You’ve

got class with me,”
