N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Brigid Clark Date of Activity: 02/08, 04/01, 04/04, 04/08 Faculty name:

Darlene Lacroix

Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with

(be specific about the purpose and your role): For my professional activity, I attended a BLS

class and additionally watched/listened to four various webinars and virtual podcasts relating to

the current COVID-19 crisis. The BLS training was a four hour in person training on how to

respond in emergency situations and perform CPR. The first webinar I watched was from the

Harvard school of public health on March 2nd (watched on April 1st) and addressed the arising

concerns with the current COVID-19 crisis and how other countries were approaching the

upcoming outbreak. They also talked about the likelihood of a future vaccine and how the

timeline for that is very lengthy. The second webinar I watched was an interview with a doctor

from Italy and was filmed on March 13th (watched on April 4th). The Italian doctor talks about the

current crisis in Italy, how they identify risk factors for each patient and the high variability/high

variety of patients that walk into the hospital with COVID-19. The third webinar I watched was

by the CDC and was held on March 5th (watched on April 8th). This webinar had four different

doctors from COVID-19 response teams answer questions pertaining to the topic of what

clinicians need to know in order to prepare for this virus. I then watched a virtual podcast from

March 10th (watched on April 8th) with Joe Rogan interviewing Michael Osterholm. This podcast

is from the beginning of the US outbreak and it was interesting to watch because the expert, Mr.

Osterholm talks about how this is something we need to worry about and how this is going to last

for months. He goes over the virus in general and all the problems that are expected to arise

including shortage of supplies.

Where was this held and what was was program/activity length? The BLS training was at the

college of nursing and was 4 hours. The first webinar was accessed through

https://theforum.sph.harvard.edu/events/the-coronavirus-outbreak/ and was one hour. The second

webinar was accessed through https://www.youtube.com/watch?

v=TKS1pahoPRU&feature=youtu.be and was 36 minutes. The third webinar was accessed

through https://emergency.cdc.gov/coca/calls/2020/callinfo_030520.asp and was one hour. The

fourth podcast was accessed through https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3URhJx0NSw and

was one hour and 34 minutes.

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific). These experiences were very valuable

to my future career. BLS is a required certification for all nursing positions and is vital to have

upon entering the work force. Additionally, the COVID-19 crisis is almost at its peak and it was

very informative learning and getting accurate information about the virus and it’s future.

How would you continue to use this experience throughout your nursing career? I will

always remember the COVID-19 pandemic and as I enter the workforce and I am glad I can be

educated on the virus and how health care facilities are working through it with minimal staff

and low equipment. This is was helpful to know what I will be walking into shortly.

Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future;

why or why not? (Describe) Yes, I would recommend these experiences. They all taught me

very valuable information that will be helpful throughout not only my career in the nursing force

but are valuable information for the general public in staying safe and healthy during emergency

situations and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
