PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION 2

Growing up as a child moving around to different schools in different school districts was

always fun. I got to meet different people and experience many different types of teaching, rules

and curriculums. It was always a teacher that I liked a lot and a teacher that I didn’t like that

much. I would say It was not that I didn’t like the teacher I just didn’t the way she taught or ran

her class. She failed at getting a connection with her students and the teaching lessons were

mostly reading from the book; no hands-on experience. My favorite thing at school was always a

P.E activity and in class experiments. At such a young age I learned that I was a visual learner.

Anytime the teacher would be up just talking I never knew what to do because it was hard for me

to understand but once I was able to physically do and activity it was much easier.

I believe that teachers are supposed to give the students a reason to want to come back to

class the next day and want to learn. As a teacher I should be make class exciting and not just

force students to look at a textbook all day and take notes and they leave class still not knowing

what they learned about. I agree with the John Dewey philosophy on progressivism because he

believed that in learning by doing people will connect and learn more. I also agree with George

S. Counts philosophy on social reconstruction. He believed that it was important for students to

learn by reconstructing society. Counts wants students to become intelligent problem solvers and

enjoy learning. Both philosophies have helped me come a better learner and it could help other

students.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION 3
My goal as a teacher is not only to help the students further their education but to help

students better their knowledge about the world we live in today. I want to be able to grow a

relationship with my students that doesn’t just last the school year but last a lifetime. My

students should feel comfortable in my classroom. They shouldn’t feel different because they

don’t look the same as someone they aren’t still beautifully and wonderfully made. I will help

them understand the importance of self-love because when a student doesn’t feel loved or feel

pretty, they tend to lose confidence and that can be a big part of why they don’t want to learn or

come to school. Students will build friendships in my class; my class will not be remembered as

the class someone got bullied in. I plan to bring in a lot of games music and activities that deals

with the topics that we are learning on now. I want to be able to have my students learn fun facts

and different activities about different cultures so that we can all know something about the

different ethnicities that they may come across. I believe my class will be more than just about

our peers; students will learn how to continue to make goals and reach them. I will still use a lot

of the tool’s teachers use now I will just add my own little twist on things. If I could get rid of

testing I would just because they take too many it’s boring, but I do feel like it is important so

that everyone knows the progress that a student is making.

In closing I believe that the students learning does the depend on them, but we are a big

part of whether they want to learn or not. Interacting with the students grows a connection that

can last a lifetime. Don’t just want them to show respect but respect them. Push the student into

wanting to learn more and focus on making everyday of teaching worth listening and learning

from.
