Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction/Background of the Study
Cutting the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) is quite a hassle and an unsafe thing to
do but an electronics student cannot go away with it. One reason would be the size of
the PCB where sometimes we need to cut small pieces of it manually. In the past
students tried different tools for cutting there are some who used hack saws, there were
some who. score the PCB on both sides with a sharp knife and then either break it
(carefully) along that line or keep scoring until the blade goes through, and there are
those who found that using a table-top paper cutter (the type with the long sword-like
blade) as an ideal tool for cutting small boards to size. This method has the advantage
of not producing any glass-epoxy saw dust. Just hold the board TIGHTLY to get a
straight cut. You don't have to worry about breathing in the dust either. With all that
taken into account injuries cause by accidents will also be unavoidable. Electronic
students are in awe if there is a better way of cutting the PCB manually which will be a
safe one.
PCB material. PCBs are typically made of FR4 (also known as Epoxy Resin
Fiberglass) and this stuff, believe it or not, is not as bad as people may think. Fiberglass
was the alternative to asbestos as it does not cause the same long term effects (cancer
etc). [Link] says "OSHA confirmed these findings in 1991 when it decided
to regulate fiberglass as a nuisance dust, and not as a cancer causing agent. The state
of California, nevertheless, still requires that fiberglass be labeled as a potential cancer
causing agent." Though it is not really hazardous FR4 dust produced from cutting PCBs
are still considered as potential cancer causing agent that is why a product that can cut
PCBs fast without producing FR4 dust is a must and a need of EPAS that is why the
researchers ventured on developing their fast and safe version of the PCB Cutting
Machine.
Background of the study (Lengthen)
Many of the researchers today only set goals like earning a lot of money and
improve commercialized products with better features but the researchers PCB Cutting
Machine is different because this product aims help to cut a PCB in fastest and safest
way as compared to using the utility knife. The researchers of PCB Cutting Machine
developed this product not to earn money but to help persons who are in lined with
studying and working with electronic products.
All kinds of product have good and bad effects. The PCB Cutting Machine have
many good effects such as it is time saving, and it cuts a PCB easier.
The researchers believed that this product can help them to make an easy way of
cutting the Printed Circuit Board. Another thing is it to lessen the time that spent in
[Link] that one can still do other things when he/she finish the cutting in a short time.
Theoretical Framework
This study is anchored with the Input-Process-Output (IPO) Model which is a
functional graph that identifies the inputs, outputs, and required processing tasks
required to transform inputs into outputs. The model is sometimes configured to include
any storage that might happen in the process as well. The inputs represent the flow of
data and materials into the process from the outside. The processing step includes all
tasks required to effect a transformation of the inputs. The outputs are the data and
materials flowing out of the transformation process
Research Paradigm

Definition of Terms
To make the study clear and understandable, certain terms have been
operationally and conceptually defined as follows:
Acceptability - characteristics of a thing being subject to acceptance for some purpose,
a thing is acceptable if it sufficient to serve the purpose for which it is provided, even if, it
is far less usable for this purpose than the ideal example acceptability is determined by
searching the hierarchy .
Blade protector – it use to protect PVB Cutting Machine to avoid accident
Dremel blade – It is type of blade that for making precise cut in wood, metal and
plastics.
IPO Research Model - is a functional graph that identifies inputs, outputs, and required
processing tasks required to transform inputs into outputs.
PCB (Printed Circuit Board) – is an electronic circuit used in devices to provide
mechanical support and a pathway to its electronic components. It is made by
combining different sheets of non – conductive material, such as fiberglass or plastics
that easily hold copper circuitry.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES
This chapter reviews the research literature and studies related to the present [Link]
review focuses on the Acceptability and Development of PCB Cutting Machine.
A table saw is a woodworking tool, consisting of a circular saw blade, mounted on an
arbor, that is driven by an electric [Link] blade protrudes through the top of a table,
which provides support for the material, usually wood, being cut. A table saw (also
known as a bench or bench saw in England). There are three kinds of cuts that can be
performed on a table saw a cross cut a ripping cut and a dado cut. A cross cut is usually
considered to be a cut across the grain but really it can be any cut across the narrower
direction of the board.
The first table saw was invented in the 18 thcentury .The woodwork tool ha a fixed arbor
and table . You had to move the table in up-down movement to cut wood at different
heights. It was bulky weight throught the blade was made of steel hence its strength .It
used a circular motion in cutting wood . The hand-field tool was cumbersome but could
cut plastic and metal in addition to wood .It used a hydraulic motor as a source of power
.The inventor was Samuel Miller from Southampton in England in 1777.
