NIFT exam is conducted to offer admission to aspirants in undergraduate as well as postgradu-


ate design programmes offered at all the NIFT campuses.

UG programmes offered at NIFT include Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Bachelor of Fashion
Technology (BFTech) whereas PG courses on offer at NIFT include Master of Design (MDes),
Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech) and Master of Fashion Management (MFM).

Candidates who wish to secure admission in BDes and MDes courses at NID need to appear for
two papers – NIFT CAT and NIFT GAT. Candidates who clear NIFT entrance exam for these
courses then need to appear for the Situation Test or GD/PI round for BDes and MDes course
respectively. The weightage allotted to each test conducted for NIFT admissions is as per the
table mentioned below:

NIFT Creative Ability Test (CAT) is usually conducted from 10 am to 1 pm on the exam day
followed by NIFT General Ability Test (GAT) which is conducted from 2 pm to 4 pm on the
same day.

Candidates are informed that NIFT CAT is administered to judge their intuition, power of
observation, innovation in development of a concept and design ability. An important aspect of
the test is the creative and innovative use of colours and illustration skills. NIFT entrance exam
has no negative marking.

NIFT does not release its question paper officially but Shiksha has compiled the list of questions
asked in NIFT CAT by speaking to aspirants as well as experts. Candidates can view the past
years’ questions asked in NIFT CAT exam below.

NIFT CAT 2017 Questions


The three questions asked in NIFT Creative Ability Test 2017 are as mentioned below:

Question 1: Draw any one of the following scenes:


a) The view of the traffic signal from inside the car.
b) A street play being organised.
c) A community festival celebration.

Question 2: Illustrate in colour a print on a T-shirt based on any one of the following themes:
a) Music is the soul of life.
b) Save future wild life.
c) Dignity to aged.

Question 3: Express the contrast between the given pair of words through two separate visuals
in given boxes. Out of the given three, one was to be attempted:
a) Balanced/ Unbalanced
b) Crispy/ Soggy
c) Cluttered/ Uncluttered

NIFT CAT 2016 Questions


The three questions asked in NIFT Creative Ability Test 2016 are as mentioned below:
